2005 X5 transmission jolt
 

When making a rolling start sometimes when I am in first gear (automatic transmission) if I accelerate there is a violent jolt. I have learned how to avoid this just by knowing my car and how it reacts however I would love to know if anyone else has shared a similar experience. What's the problem? BTW 4.4i.

Everyone has had a similar experience. Do a search - This forum is full of threads about this. Some have claimed success through software upgrades, some have done gearbox valve mods but I still have not come across a solution that I feel is suitable for me (04 4.4)

Mine was doing the violent jerk under hard acceleration. My issue was the d-drum went bad. Got a transmission fault and I knew it was not my day. $2000 later she is back on the road.

I've been having a similar problem with my '03 4.4i recently (the past ~3 months). When coming to a rolling stop, sometimes there is a jolt when going from 2nd to 1st gear. It also occurred sometimes when I'm coming to a slow rolling stop and then accelerate (e.g. right turn at a light). Pretty embarrassing when having passengers in the car.

I just took my car in to an indy mechanic, and he told me that it's because of the transmission adaptation programming/learning. I guess I've been driving it differently than my wife since I took the car from her back in Nov. Anyhow, he told me that the transmission adaptation needed to be cleared out. While he had it, I asked him to make sure to update my transmission software to the latest version as well. Just picked up the car 2 hours ago and on the drive home (and around doing some errands), it seems to be resolved...hopefully permanently. Actually feels like it's going up/down the gears much smoother now.

Service invoice shows: Reprogram DME, reset trans program learning, update transmission software to latest.

My indy mechanic charged me 1 hour labor ($110)

His shop is kinda pricey these days; almost the same as the dealerships! But he is the most reputable BMW shop around this area and they do good work, so I take it to him when I need more "specialized" service. Anyways, I digress :zoom:
