Dinan letters

Dinan owners - has your lettering supplied by Dinan corroded??? :dunno: - Just noticed after my last carwash my 3-4 month old lettering rotting away - Mind you, it was washing off 2500 miles of salt, dirt, and road scum, but only 10 days since it was last washed prior to my leaving Charleston,SC for home in Idaho. Went to my dealer to have him ask Dinan about it ( and to replace them ) - Will Know more later today - Bummer!!!

kirkX5m 12-28-2005 10:39 AM

no problems with my badging here, but then again, the so cal area where i live (very much inland!!!!!) doesnt get much humidity so very little chance for anything to corrode...hope you get yours replaced!

DINANM3 12-28-2005 01:10 PM

Ive had a few cars with the dinan badge on the trunk lid and never had a problem with corosion or rust. And i live in CT where it snows and some ive had on the car for years

Finally heard from Dinan :dh: - seems to replace the Dinan lettering, you have to remove the old ones and ship them back before they send you new ones :wtf: - seems a little paranoid to me :dunno: - we are giving them free advertising  - may only use the "X5" letters :thebird:

X5Flyboy 02-27-2006 11:37 PM

Update - washed X5 Fri and noticed the Dinan lettering starting to corrode again  , all except the 'I' (1 month since replacement and we don't use salt around here) :dunno: - now the 'I' was the only letter I sent back without the adhesive and the corroding is virtually identical to what I had sent back to Dinan

Went to the dealer and had him call Dinan - I got on the phone and asked for a new set before I send these back. I also inferred that it looked like they polished up my old letters and sent them back to me, so I asked for the old ones back  (to compare the corroding with the pictures I took - didn't tell them that). :D

At first I was told they did not want that many sets out (?????), then I was told they would send the old set back. Maybe by Fri I'll know more. My dealer stuck it to Dinan saying they want reimbursment for installation since this will be the 3rd time.

LOL! that's hilarious!

I JUST HAD MY BADGING (DINAN & X5) INSTALLED ON 12/15/07 (300 MILES AGO) AND THEY ARE ALREADY PITTED AND CORRODED.

MY DEALER IS ASKING FOR NEW ONES

Islands52 01-17-2008 05:40 PM

Dinan is giving you a hard time because the badges fetch a tidy profit when sold, so they are not ones to hand out $200 badges to every Tom Dick and Harry that do not have the "points". Also why they want the old set returned prior, as if they send out a new set, they are unlikely to ever have the old one arrive.

X5Flyboy 01-18-2008 05:27 PM

"technically", I did not "buy" the badges - I "paid" for the S2 upgrade for my used 2001 X5 - supposedly the badges and floor mats were "free" - and the last set they sent to me also has a small bit of corrosion - I may send these back this summer when I'm back in Idaho with the dealer who did the install - and believe me when I say that with that much corrosion, no one would want to display them - besides, as I've stated before, I've seen the same style lettering on the back of Dodge trucks - so how expensive can they be if Chrysler uses them?

Islands52 01-18-2008 07:12 PM

I didn't imply that you bought the badge, I meant that the badge sets fetch quite a bit of coin online. I know they need to be "earned" through Dinan purchases.

I thought the Dinan lettering was a lot like the lettering that you could get from Bimmian http://www.bimmian.com/70 and then "Custom Badge Letters" --- so it may be able to purchased cheaply. There's even a picture of (some bozo that stuck) a "DINAN 3" on the back of his X.

Once again....

I’m having my 3rd set of DINAN badges put on this afternoon. Once again, they corroded from the winter weather here in NE. Dinan seems surprised but from what I’ve read, this is a common occurrence

My DINAN badges have now corroded for the 4th time!!!

I decided to de-badge them myself this time using a hair dryer and dental floss because I was tired at looking at them only to find this hidden underneath....

Not a happy camper, obviously the dealership "hid" the damage to the paintwork after removing the 3 previous badge sets by placing the lettering over the damage.....

Yea, mine were corroded big time too. Actually one of the N's was
ready to fall off. I decided to de-badge using a heat gun. I heated the
area from approx. 10" away from the trunk lid so I don't damage the
paint from the hot air. Eventually one by one they peeled off no problem,
but the damage was already done. A bit of corrosion (rust) penetrated
through the paint, so now it's a bit yellow in some spots where the
letters were.

J.Belknap 03-06-2011 07:22 AM

Wow.

Sorry to hear about that guys. I've got an old-school Dinan badge (Dinan P/N: D713-100) and no issues to report.

bsprtsgrp 03-06-2011 12:08 PM

I sent an email to my Dinan rep at my dealership with the pictures. I'm demanding that they repair the scratches to my hatch. Not sure it can be wet sanded or if it will need to be re-painted

CTSportX5 03-06-2011 11:51 PM

Damn, I would be pissed. Looks like a few of those are beyond wet sanding..

Hey guys, as you all know, my X5 has all the Dinan Performance mods available for the E53.
The previous owner spent alot of money.
Here's my dilemma, "DINAN" badge or no badge?

The Dinan letters corroded & pitted so badly that they were just about to fall off!
I emailed Dinan and this is what I said:

Hi xxxxx, here's a couple pics (Dinan Emblem & X5) as per our discussion
last week:

I removed the DINAN emblem because it was pitted pretty bad, and some of the letters were ready to fall off.
Can you guys send me another one please? Do I have to pay for it?
Thank you,
Spiros

There reply:
According to your VIN the mods are more than enough to support the badge.
We can supply a replacement badge for $49.00 USD, please let me know how you would like to proceed.

Shouldn't Dinan provide me with this badge for free. After all, I'm advertising their
company????

Not to be rude or saying that your Dinan badge is fake, but it looks a bit off to me:dunno:. Here is the actual Dinan badge from Dinan.

Myself, bsprtsgrp & a few others have the style that I posted in
the above photo. (Few pics below also)

Not 100% sure, but I think the one you have is the newer style
DINAN badge?
That's actually the one that they would send me for $49. (1 pc)

bsprtsgrp 05-13-2011 12:37 PM

I am not even putting my new badges back on the vehicle. I still have them in the bag that they came in from Dinan

X5-DINAN 05-17-2011 04:13 PM

Sorry to hear about that guys. I've got my Dinan badge about 6 months ago and so far no issues to report.

bsprtsgrp 05-17-2011 04:26 PM

You live in sunny SD, where there is no salt tossed on the roads in the winter:thumbup:
