Occasional dead battery

I have experienced a dead battery twice in the last year. Both times were on a Monday after not driving at all the Sunday prior. Starts right up with a jump and then seems to be just fine. I have owned the car 5 years and have installed a new battery. I have replaced the FSR.

The only other source I can think of is my sub amp, but I connected that per the write up on the How To page. Also wouldn't this be a constant problem if the sub amp were somehow draining the battery?

Anyone experience anything similar?

No way of knowing after the fact (dead battery fact), but the 'fade-away' courtesy lighting sometimes Doesn't.. If not for a photo-op in our vacation, I had to take the advice that that was what had happened to our DEPO converted '01.. We popped the lock on Dancer to get the AEs on for the photo, then hit lock again and sat down to enjoy the weather.. and he simply didn't fade out. lock/relock, no joy, finally got his bearings again after we started and shut down (have heard manually shut off interior lights can be successful, check with lock afterwards).

So IF your battery is new and GOOD, then all I can suggest is that you get in the habit of looking over your shoulder and making sure that the interior/halos have gone dark.. they do kill a battery Way dead.

Hello Bill,
I don't know if this helps you or not but I have read posts where people with nav have a slow battery drain.

What voltage is your X showing when your driving around. Do the guage test number 9. I check mine all the time. Those interior lights are a hog. I had to jump my old battery 3 times because of them

Also do you have a ipod or anything connected. Maybe your car is not going into sleep mode.

I recently purchased a gromaudio usb2 device and it would not shutoff. apparently new firmware fixed it. so sometimes the devices are not goiing into sleep mode.

just some ideas to check. any

Still having issues. Twice this weekend the car would not start, both times I had started it and moved in from the garage out to the driveway to clean it. My sub has been disconnected for a week. I had the battery tested at Advance Auto Parts - 12.5 volts and over 1000 cca. I measure voltage with the car running and got 13.5 at the battery and 13.9 under the hood on the jump points. I guess I will have to make an appointment with the dealer.:(

Did you find out what the issue was causing the drain? I am having a similar problem with my X5.

Hi guys, I had the same problem and for me it turned out to be a faulty hood switch that was killing the battery for me... Might want to check that just in case... Hope this helps...

No, I am still suffering. It happened Saturday and today. A friend was behind me and told me the driver's side tail light and brake light were out. Not sure if that has anything to do with it. :dunno:

There maybe a short back there causing the batt drain. Get the tails fixed and report back?

Try disconnecting the "sub amp" and see if the battery still drains?
If working ok with sub amp disconnected then you have a short/fault at the amp
