2004 X5 Changing water Pump
Has anybody done this or have any information. Chang the water pump on a 2004 X5 4.4
Thanks |
Heres what I do;
-remove fan and fan shroud -loosen water pump pulley bolts just a hair -remove belts -remove water pump pulley -remove crank pulley (make sure metal pin on crank goes into correct hole on pulley when re-installing pulley) -remove the 4 coolant hoses -remove thermostat from water pump if not replacing thermostat, even tho i recommend replacing it also since youre in there. -disconnect plugs -remove water pump -apply silicone spray to the small oring on pump and black tube. -reverse for install. -bleed cooling system |
It helps to have a Bentley manual when you are DIYing. Even if you know how to do a repair you still NEED the torque spec of the fasteners you are removing/installing! If you find a DIY with torque specs you are relying on data that can possibly be incorrect, I doubt the DIY poster will step up and pay for additional repair costs due to stripped threads/damaged and broken parts due to fat fingered typing or incorrect info. Get the BMW bible and proceed.

The author, Hayaku, did an outstanding job on this write-up and is a skilled "wrench". He helped me change the water pump in my 3.0. :thumbup: Luckily I don't live too far from him. |
