8 Years On.
We have hit 8 years of ownership and 70K total miles (34K with us.) on the X5 this month. To celebrate she (yes she is a she) decided to start throwing a funny dim Airbag light and then coupled it to sporadic intervals when the rear wiper decided to act like the second hand of a clock.
My good friend "SEARCH" revealed these were indicative of the ignition switch so one was duly purchased and fitted by my local mechanic. I also had the oil changed on the three lights (half schedule) and the brake fluid changed out also. It was whilst doing this he found front bearings with play so I get to bring it back once the bearings/hubs arrive from FCP Groton to have those fitted. He should also be doing the CV joint covers as he is in there in the area with everything disconnected and then he gets to move on to a valve cover gasket. Hopefully we shall then be ready to start the next 70K miles. |
Congrats on the milestone. I hit that a few months ago and gave it a "new" coolant system as a birthday present. Had you done a coolant system (waterpump, t-stats, radiator hoses, fan clutch, belts, etc.) overhaul yet?

I hit that just after we bought it and CPO had to eat it. 38K miles seems very low for such major surgery.

Just picked the X up after front wheel bearings/hubs and the valve cover gasket were replaced.
What a difference! Drives like new and should be good for another 70K (I hope.) I had the CV boots replaced while the front end was pulled apart even though the existing boots had not developed leaks, YET! I purchased all the parts online and for the most part they were as good as or better than OEM. We plan on keeping the X for a few more years while we save/research what we are calling our last vehicle before/for retirement. Have got to get that one right. |
Zulu, congrats on 'her' birthday!
Hope you drive it, and enjoy it as many more years as you wish. GL, mD |
