Feel like a dipsh!t today!
So I went to top off the oil yesterday on my 2002 3.0 and found I didn't have any M1 5W-30 left. OK, I'll pick some up at the 'Zone today and get her up to full.
My son drove to Prom last night and this morning I noticed a SES light -- scanned out as a P0171 and P0174, so maybe there is an intake leak. Got home to add the oil I bought and... No oil cap. Fortunately it was still on top of the intake runners, so I added my quart and re-installed said cap. Morals of the story: 1. Keep some M1 5W-30 on hand with a car that burns it 2. Don't get interrupted. 3. Don't be a dipsh!t! Bill |
dang, sounds like you actually got away fairly easy. that could have been much worse. thanks for the lesson and the heads up!

Oops! Luckily it didn't turn out too badly. I have heard of an oil change with no oil going back in, leading to tragic consequences.

In my experience, we are all idiots on regular occasion! :D
You got lucky...sometimes Murphy is looking askance. GL, mD |
You could have drained the transmission fluid instead of the oil like my buddy did on his Toyota Tundra.
But forgetting the oil cap is up there. |
Fuel cap on a tether, anyone?
ayep, we've all had countless "damn.. I'm umpty-one years old and I'm Still a dipsh!t.." moments and amen to the Murphy comment.. good luck where you find it and pay.it.forward. |
