Window Broken (REGULATOR IS FINE)
 

Guys,

So my wife's X5 window is broken. All the symptoms of a window regulator problem. I bought a window regulator, took the door apart, went to install it and found the regulator is fine and still works well. On re-installation i saw that there is a piece of support metal that runs down the door. It holds the window lining/felt/insulation in place. (Essentially the window seal on the top, that runs down, past the front mirror, runs all the way down into the door and is welded to the bottom of the door) Well, the weld that holds that lining and support to the bottom of the door is broken. I think this maybe what causes the window to pop out of its alignment.

Anyone run into this problem? Anyone fix it? Weld it? metal glue? Suggestions?

are you sure it's welded. I thought there was a slot for it. Don't remember if it was this car, or older BMW where I was able to remove that thing, and replace it. Check REALOEM.com if that is replaceable part.

It's a metal piece that holds the lining. The lining just slides into it, yes, but the metal piece is welded to the door.

if it really is welded, go to a metal fab, welding place, and have them tack it up. Prolly cost you $10.

well... I dont know of any welding places near me, so I took matters into my own hands... I took the door apart and regulator out (my wife and I are getting good at this by now) and I used some of this....

Time will tell if it holds, but so far so good. (Knock on wood)
