I make sure to carry a rather extensive tool kit when I road trip the X, including torque wrenches, Bentley, fluids, spare belts/hoses/bulbs, jump cables, gas can (I am one of those who don't stop for gas until the --- appear in the range display)...... but I know it's just a matter of time B4 I will need to call AAA for a tow and provide them with a shop address in a location I am unfamilar with. Hope others here will be able to use the info provided in this thread for that purpose. Nothing worse than having your vehicle on a flatbed and NO IDEA where to take it!

My X5 went out of warranty last year. Since then, I have been using Avus Autosport in Glendale, California, and have been very pleased with their work. There is also an Enterprise rental nearby if needed.

I use Turn in Concepts in Fairfield, OH. They are an import shop focusing on performance and maintenance for all vehicles and are great with BMW's. They offer pretty much any maintenance items as well as a whole host of performance items from engine building to alignments and track prep.

MPH Automotive Services 16510 Park Row Houston, Texas 77084 Phone: 281-579-8885 Had a problem on a 528i that messed up the alarm, ignition, windshield wiper (they would just stop), and a host of other issues including putting it in to limp mode while running down the highway. The dealer said the battery was bad and the unstable power could cause that. I hit limp more about an hour outside Houston, limp to their shop and described the problem. The secretary identified it as likely the ignition switch but said they'd take a look. The mechanic drove it home (with my permission) to get it to do it again and had identified it as the ignition switch and fixed it by the next day....years later and the problem never came back. An old friend has taken Mercedes and BMW's to them for years and pointed me to them. I've had other good experiences with them but this one impressed me the most. ....now if someone just knew of a great shop in the Pensacola, FL region I'd be ecstatic. :) |

I'm new to xoutpost. I own a 2001 e38 and bought a 03 e54 this week.
I've been through all the major players in the Independent BMW repair guys in San Diego. I was going to buy an Acura MDX before I found him. He restored my belief in BMW's as I hated the repair costs. He will even come out and look at your car if you are broken down. I settled on Jim's Williams BMW repair in Pacific Beach. He is honest competent and reasonable. Marc Motors 85 Main Street Madison, NJ 07940 Owner: Marc Albert, 973-295-6523 Redline Speed Worx 175 Jefferson Street Washington, NJ 07882 (SOON MOVING TO NEW LOCATION ON ROUTE 22 IN GREEN BROOK) 908-223-7477 Both phenomenal shops but two totally different ones. Redline Speed Worx is a Euro specialty place and has the best fabricators around, amazing TIG welding, transmission rebuilds, differential installs etc, I wouldn't hesitate to give them any work at all. Marc Motors is a local neighborhood honest indy mechanic, he worked for Dave Zeckhausen for years before opening his own shop, knows his Bimmers well, and did plenty of work for me before, always lets me bring him parts if i want. |

Dynamic Auto Sport in Huntley IL is great as well.
The sole mechanic/owner used to be the service manager for BMW at MotorWerks. He worked on the side here and there out of his own garage, got so busy that he quit MW and opened his own shop. The guy is as good as it gets and his pricing is very reasonable. |

The OP started this list by using states as a header where the different shops could be listed. It would have been nice if everyone could have followed his lead by listing the shops on the first page under the state as it was arranged, That way all one had to do was go to the first page look at the state where you live and find the location of a shop near you. Personally I hope the way he had it organized will continue. That would make updates easier to make by those who have knowledge of when shops change locations or new ones are added. If it continues the way it's going users will have to scroll thru the thread not knowing where to look for that one shop someone listed. May I suggest that we please organize it so that it's easier to use? |

I'll add two for the southside of Atlanta:
Allspeed Autoworks, Peachtree City, 770-631-3966. A nice BMW/Porsche performance shop, with high-end alignment equipment. They did a reasonably priced front bearing replacement for me and some a/c work. Fayette Imports, Fayetteville, on GA 85 north of town. Good, reasonable, all around quality shop for M-B and BMW work. Good to work with if you want to buy parts for their install; I believe they have the BG flush equipment, among other services. |

Checking in for western Washington State - Seattle area.
Signature Independent has been a bit disappointing lately. I used them for five years exclusively. They have a great staff and are very knowledgeable, but the past few times through there were lots of small errors or misdiagnosis. I've spent about $2,000 on repairs they claimed I needed but turned out to be other issues entirely. I've started going to WestWerks and so far am very happy. Friendly, quick, did small extra bits the car needed without charging me and even drop it off at my office when they're done. |

In Indianapolis, Autohaus Merkle is a very reputable indy shop - have been servicing German cars at the same location since 1967. They did my valve cover gasket and CCV and did a great job - very professional and their price was better than a few other quotes I got from other German only indy shops.

Just had a great experience in the Richmond, VA area. These guys are BMW Master Techs that left the dealership and started their own shop about three years ago. Wish I'd found them sooner!
