wont start somtimes
 
Hi guys i have an issue with my 2004 4.4 x5
somtimes when i get into it and turn the key it wont start all the lights are on the dash the battery is fully charged there isnt even a click from the starter when it does this the sidelights flash off and on even though they are off
it only does this now and again but i dont like to go on a run is case i get caught out
any help at all would be appreciated

maybe the solenoid for the starter, since you said that there is not even a click, I would check that first.

With lights on and a fully charged battery I would say the most likely cause is a bad key. I had one of my two go bad and the symptoms were exactly what you describe.

Had a problem like that on my 2006. Turned out to be ignition switch 61-32-6-901-961.

Quick update took it to the dealer turns out it was a dead key

I would still change the ignition switch.

It just cost me £200.00 for a key had to buy a wing mirror last week @ £835 + vat the week before that it was 4 new tyres I really don't want to get any more for it it's starting to cost more to to keep the x5 than the Missis lol

you can strip the ignition switch and clean it up with electrical contact cleaner you don't need to buy a new one in a lot of cases if the contacts aren't too pitted.

The problem with the switch is that sometimes it happens once,some other times twice.
Once I spent 40 min starting without luck until I pulled the Fuel pump fuse.
