Anyone paint their lower rear bumpers...

...under the tailpipes (just the area covered by the 4.6/4.8 spoilers) as opposed to just painting the rear bumper monochrome?

Considering this as an alternative to the more ubiquitous 4.6/4.8is rear spoiler.

Wow, its been a long time since I've seen this request. Yes, people have done this.

To be honest that looks surprisingly good. I wonder how much that would cost me...

I agree. Just scuff it up with some sandpaper, prime, paint and probably clear. It probably won't cost that much if you do it yourself.

EDIT: I think that area is not smooth but textured. So, not sure if sanding will make it uneven (and maybe create more work). If so, might be better to just give the area a good cleaning instead of sanding. I'm sure there are chemicals that you can use to help in cleaning and for primer to adhere too.

If you let a shop do it, I'm thinking maybe $150-$200? Just a guess.

For the front, you could think about adding the colored skid plate.

TwinsPoppa that looks great!!! Thanks for posting that, I've been scouring the net for a pic of that exactly. I am thinking of doing this to my 04 3.0. I want a sportier look but IMHO the iS kit is too much for the look I want. I've been getting a lot of good info from your posts, salamat po. ;)

Now I am looking for an interesting front spoiler to go along with this.

Right now it looks like painted rear lower bumper, 4.6is front spoiler or front decorative skid plate, and maybe Le Mans flares and matching spacers for the stock 19" style 63's.

What do you guys think? :)

Walang anuman. I think the LeMans flares are the way to go if you're just going to paint that rear section. If you like it, then go with it.

Yes, will definitely be painting the lower rears and absent finding anything better, get the 4.6iS front spoiler.

Flares are pending my research on how spacers affect handling and wear, as I will be pushing out Style 63 wheels to fill the flares.

That lower bumper painting is a neat trick and a good alternative to the expensive 4.6is kit. Be forewarned that you will have to do something about the exhaust tips after.
