From E46 to E53

Hey everyone, glad to finally have a legit reason to be a member of this forum. I traded my E46 in this past weekend on an '03 X5 3.0 (Sport Package) with 104k mi. - Sapphire Black on Black. The classic line "I'm not going to mod it, I'm just going to drive it" was heard, but that didn't last long. I already ordered 25mm spacers for the rears. :smh:

On to the pics...

Congrats, but it would have been a hard trade for your e46, imo.

Nice X5. Nice photography too.

Your e46 looks like it was a ZHP, yes?
I still have my black/black ZHP. I couldn't give it up. Congrats on the X5 though, you're going to love it! Out of our three BMW's (X5, moded 135, moded e46) the X5 is our favorite!

Looks like a 330i ZSP with a ZHP front bumper to me.

Haha yeah, most people would probably say the same. For a daily though, the X5 is much more enjoyable.

Welcome DTMdan! I recognize your username/car from E46Fanatics.

I'm sure it was hard to let go of the E46 but you will love your X.

P.S. I still miss my 330ci

Exactly ours as well. Wife's '02 330, My '00 E39 (above), and my '04 4.8is.

I'm not very big on stretch and poke jobs... but damn that looks nice.

PS... I like that white 944 Turbo (951) the best. :)

Silver Gauge Rings are on the way... debating whether or not I want to vinyl wrap the interior trim.

What's the best fix for the missing pixels on both the dash & the radio?

I wrapped mine a couple of months ago and it's holding up well. Here's a post of mine that has pic of it. Let me know if you want to see more...

Overall it was pretty esay but the console was a bitch. You have to remove it to get the pieces off. Plenty of DIY around for the console removal...

you can DIY with a ribbon from pixelfix.net (i think its shipped from yugoslavia or something) and the instructions found on the net, from what i've heard its time consuming, and very precise work, but definitely DIY-able.

The gauge rings i'd save till when you fix the cluster, that way you only crack it open once.

Personally, I'm probably just gonna send my cluster to www.vdorepair.com and have them take care of that and the gauge rings one of these days, lifetime warranty and no worries about fading pixels again or that i screwed up my cluster.

Bill Valley 06-13-2012 01:47 PM

Looks great! Time to order the black out grille.

Ricky Bobby 06-13-2012 02:03 PM

ECS has free shipping on them too! I went with Titanium on my Topaz Blue 03 Sport though..

TiAgX5 06-13-2012 02:20 PM

1 Attachment(s)
Looks better but could use alot more spacer. I went from 255s to 285s rear (15mm), 19x9F & 19x10R wheels with 10mm offset shift (ET) on F&R, 25mm H&R DRA spacers rear. Total shift of rear outer sidewall is 50mm.

ECS Tuning 06-13-2012 02:47 PM

It's amazing how spacers can change the personality of a vehicle sooo much.

Looking good!

TiAgX5 06-13-2012 03:17 PM

The bulbous wheel flairs and lower body profile along with the inset wheels give Xs a totally lame "hovercraft" look that I could not stand for on my X, hence the drastic 50mm outward rear shift I chose to go with.

nice upgrade

Looks good! (and I typically dislike CF int. wraps)

I'm thinking about either going with brushed graphite like I did in my E46
http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8155/7...8e5aea5f_b.jpg
http://farm6.staticflickr.com/5160/7...2c929dcf_c.jpg

or Brushed Charcoal Titanium (leaning towards this)

Thanks for the help! I'm going to try to fix the radio's pixels first, it's driving me crazy lol
