Anti-freeze leak...
Hi Members. Got another one for ya. I noticed weeks ago some anti-freeze wet spots on my garage floor. Then sometimes, there's no drips... completely dry. I decided to go to the shop for inspection and found out that I have a really slight water pump leak. Went to two different mechanics and told me the same issue. Estimate: $1,000. Is that a good price to replace the pump, seal, upper and lower hoses, etc.?

I had it done for $350,I provided parts which were $120 for a Saleri water pump and $5 for a thermostat O-ring.
I replaced hoses myself the other day,Upper,Lower and the one from tranny's heat exchanger thermostat to Water Pump, all shipped $240. Quote:

Diyanich. Thanks for the response. Damn, that's better than $1K! How do I get a hold of this Saleri pump? I guess I can always look it up... I don't mind working on my X. Thanks again.

There's a DIY for a 4.4 but search and you might find one for a 4.6. At least this should give you an idea. Gotta love Xoutpost How To's up at the top of the website!

Here is where I generally get my parts from
GRAF Water Pump with Gasket NOTE: Also use- (1) 11 51 1 705 408 thermostat o-ring (2) 11 53 1 710 048 water pipe o-ring (2) 11 53 1 710 055 water pipe o-ring Part #11 51 0 393 336 Although,my bad,it was a bit pricier than I mentioned,for some reason I had $120 in my head. It comes with 2 O-rings for 2 pipes that go to rear manifold and a Water Pump gasket,although not mentioned in the description. Quote:

Hey Twins and Diyanich. Thanks again for helping out. DIY's is the best pocket savers. I actually replaced my doorhandle mechanism through the How To's section. Very detailed instructions with pics. D, I looked up the website for the pump, it wasn't that much more from what you quoted earlier. I thought it's gonna be a couple hundreds more. i will order soon. I would guess that you haven't had any problems with your pump since it was installed?

Well,my cooling system overhaul actually started by Valley Pan gasket replacement.Water Pump gasket leaked right after that.Decided to replace WP along the gasket.Once replaced,a tiny drip from one of the hoses that connects right under the thermostat attached to the WP.Replaced that hose along the upper and the lower radiator hoses.Guess what...I am waiting for 2 x-rings that seal the Heat Exchanger entrances into the Radiator.
So,as you can see,I am learning here and soon will know every single cooling system component, connection, seal etc. :) Anyway. Buy a new expansion tank cap and don't tighten it up too much, there's no need.Otherwise it will dead seal the system and probably blow an extra pressure through some weaker gasket,o-ring..you name it.I squeeze the upper radiator hose and tighten the cap, once I hear no hissing from air coming in/out I do a last quarter turn.Just check the hose for pressure once your engine is warm.
