I have recently manged to upgrade from E53 4.4 2002 to E53 4.8 IS 2005 :)

The HP difference is ridiculous as well as the torque. I also found the brakes to be a huge upgrade as well. OP, love the color.

The 4.8is is loads different than 4.4i. I didn't think it would be, but it's a completely different beast. Drove a bunch back to back when buying mine. Lots of instant torque, super brakes, handles like crazy, eats bumps with the air suspension. It feels as raw as an M car. I would go so far as to say that if BMW made and x5M back then, the 4.8is would have an M badge.
