04 X5 4.4 Maintenance

Oil off the shelf from Oreilleys, Advance, Autozone...etc what is certified to use in my X5 @ 5w30?
There's an overwhelming amount of info and opinions.

Brakes are pulsating.....rotors? Pads are good.

Castrol, Mobil 1, and BMW oil (a Castrol variant) are all excellent synthetics.

And yes it sounds like you are due for new rotors if you are experiencing vibration when braking. I recommend OE BMW rotors unless you want that vibration to come back sooner. ;)

It sounds like your rotors are warped, time to change them.
I use Mobil One 5W30 on mine.

My steering wheel vibrated when breaking, that was the thrust arms.

I found the valvoline on special at checker a while back. Keep an eye for autozone/checker specials.

I've swapped out oil by myself since I bought my X in '08, and I use the Mobil1 stuff... never had a problem. (Other than the $80 bill at Advance Auto...)

I had similar pulsating upon braking, and in the end it was the tension struts and wishbones (on both sides) that I ended up replacing. And new brake pads. And new rotors. After I did all that, it fixed the problem.... A problem... one of....

......

I used them too, mostly Mobil1 Synthetic.
OP, the brand of oil that you use is not as important as how often you have it replaced. I change engine oil every 7.5K mi. I know others who use regular oil on their E39 for years and change it every 3K mi without any problem to the engine.
Your brake might just have uneven deposit on the rotors. Before you replace them, I would do a proper bedding and see if that fix the problem.
