X5 3.0 Front & Rear Differential Oil Capacity
 

Hello:

I want to replace both the front and rear differential/axle oil/fluid. Anybody knows what is the capacity of both front and rear differential?

One of the reason I want to do this is, my 06 X5 makes a whining noise whenever I make a left turn (only left turn) from a complete stop. It feels like something is dragging the car (as if some drive related mechanism is over tightened). The car is practically new (20K) because i only drive it on weekends. I could not think of anything else but to try to check/replace drive related fluid starting from front axle/differential fluid followed by the X drive transfer fluid. Anybody has a better suggestion of what the problem is?

BTW, went to the dealer to get xdrive transfer fluid and they are charging me $91 so i backed off. Then checked the internet, the same one cost around $53.

front and rear diffs take 75w-90 gear oil, I used redline.

I bought 3 quarts and it did both, I think one diff takes 1.2 and the other is 1.8.
