HELP! Adding 4.6is spoiler to facelifted X
 

Hello all,
i recently purchased a set of 4.6is spoilers from MrBMWX5 (Tom). He has been of great help to me as I have been trying to put the spoilers on. Can anyone who has themselves added the FRONT 4.6is spoiler to a FACELIFTED X comment on how they did it? I have found some information in these forums, but the most pertinent information applies to adding the spoiler to pre-facelifted X's. I myself struggled for over an hour trying to attach the front spoiler via 3M windshield adhesive, I found that the blue painters tape I used would not hold the spoiler tight enough against the bumper to allow the adhesive to contact the bumper and cure. Maybe simple solution to try again with stronger tape? I also had to modify the slots in the top of the spoiler to accomodate the vertical slats in the lower bumper grille (very minor job). I'm pretty frustrated right now and am seriously considering taking it to a body shop and having them put it on, or just screwing the spoiler on myself.......:yikes:

please help if you can!

ps. i guess its worth it just to look at her ass with the .is spoiler. lemans flares, and oem 315 style 87's on 30mm spacers...

I have not heard of anyone using a 4.6is front spoiler on a facelifted E53. It sounds like it would be quite a bit of work and require some extra plastic or fiberglass blending. :dunno:

The 4.6is spoiler on pre-facelift E53s was easy. It basically fit right on with screws and/or adhesive.

Just sacked up and screwed her on. Looks amazing, you can hardly tell there are screws. I will take pics tomorrow after she gets a deserved wash

It had been done before. There's a pic of a facelift Sterling Gray with HRE wheels and 4.6is spoiler.

also need to black out my chrome window trim. i have matte black vinyls from bmwshadowline.com but i have not been able to put them on myself and i cannot find someone locally (DC metro area) that can do it:banghead:

Plasti-Dip is pretty easy to use.

i've never heard of anyone doing it to chrome trim though :dunno:

Plastidip works on pretty much everything, even chrome.

Plasti dip is ok,it's not strong.

Not strong? Well its not crash or scratch resistant. However it is weather proof. As well as pressure washer and scrub proof. As well as brushed car washs and winter road salt. Coats need to be thick enough to look glossy but not run. 5 coats of that and your golden. My buddy has had his rims plasti-dipped for 2 yrs in Buffalo weather with no issues or touch-ups.

Lots of E39 guys did it on "bimmerfest" and "bimmerforums"

FITZUNI, they "Plasti-Dip" the wheels too, so I think it's strong enough for the window trim.

i did painted my grill black..but with driving NY roads it gets scratch pretty well and had to paint them atleast 1x every 2 months...i plasti dip the grills and nets..and she gets washed 4x a week and no issues of peeling at all.....i research how strong they are and they are power wash,car wash proof,wind proof..

Why not just get the correct 4.8is front spoiler?

Not the OP but I have a facelift and am thinking of this mod too...it's a lot lower cost and less work than putting on the 4.8is front.

But if they cost the same I'd go 4.8is look, no doubt. :D

No 4.8is spoiler. It's the whole bumper and VERY expensive
