Canadian spec X5?
 

hey so at work i have an Auto logic and after digging around in it i have the option to covert it from US to canada...what exactly would change?

I suspect the OBC (on the middle of the bottom of the instrument cluster) and navigation screen (if vehicle is so equipped) would read in metric, including all the related conversions (e.g. temperatures would read in Degrees Centigrade and fuel economy would read in Litres/100kms).

Of course, that's just my best guess.

That's what I assumed too, but I already have converted the whole car to metric through another way. Was just wondering what besides being metric Canadian spec does. No corner lights?

I've actually driven two E53s in Canada and they were identical to the U.S. vehicles in every (noticeable) way. I can't think of much else such a flash would change aside from the OBC. The only other logical guess I could make is that it would alter the emissions systems in some way (i.e. warm-up sequence duration, fuel delivery at idle, secondary air-pump activation and duration, etc.).

One final thing comes to mind: the fuel grade in Canada only goes up to 91. Maybe the flash changes something to do with ignition timing to better adapt the car to 91 Octane. Who knows.

If neither of those are it, your guess is as good as mine - and I'm Canadian!

Emissions and engine parameters should be the same, as regulations are harmonized.

Good eyes. Yes, it is. I took it at the Goodwood Festival a few years back. He was 75 years of age at the time, and had a good turn of speed on. The car is a Mercedes W196 Streamliner, 1954.

I knew it. Three things gave it away: 1) the Silver Arrow, 2) the Goodwood Hay Bales, and 3) the fact that Fangio is no longer with us. Fangio and Moss are the only people you'd see at Goodwood driving the Arrows. Because Fangio is no longer around, it could have only been Moss driving that thing at Goodwood. Process of elimination, really.

Also, very nice additional photos. I've got Goodwood on my bucket list - we'll see when it happens...

I know Mika Hakkinen drove it a few years later. I looked it up,and Hans Herrmann also drove it at Goodwood. I think that is it though, they look to world class drivers and don't let the PR hacks drive them.

I've been back to Goodwood twice since returning to Canada from a few years in the UK, and it was well worth it both times. Walking through the pits and seeing Junior Johnson, then John Surtees, then the Aston Martin DBR1, then a Tullius Jag...the list goes on. It is a great item to have on your bucket list. Take a camera.

Point taken - ignorant me. Knowing that, though, I still (albeit potentially ignorantly) would have guessed Sir Stirling because of the period correct sky blue overalls and white crash helmet. I say ignorantly because who's to say Mikka and Hans (who, as you know, is an old time heavy-weight like Moss) wouldn't have worn the same for the event? Haha
