Place your info in your signature please.

Ok, so some years ago there was a thread started by a member to have new members and even present ones put in their X's information in the signatures or profiles. Such as year, type, Options/Packages, and location. I have been trying to find this thread all day but couldn't.

So for all those that don't have their information noted, could you please do so. It helps all of us out here to get information out ASAP instead of asking, " If you can share with us the year, type of motor, and mileage with us, we can help you further." It makes life so much easier when we can look at your signature to see you have a 2001 4.4i with Sport and you have a question about doing work on the motor.

It just seemed like in the past 4 days it's almost like pulling teeth to find out which person has what X. If someone can find that original post, then we can lump this one into that one.

Also, if you are comfortable with putting in a location besides "USA, North America, X5World..." please do so. It's not like a member is going to stalk you. I just know with me, I'd like to meet some of the members on here, so if I am in their neck of the woods, I can shoot a PM to meet and look and drool over each others tastefully done mods or get blinded by some siccc AE's!!!

Maybe make it a sticky or requirement??? I dunno, I just hate having to waste bandwidth and space going back and forth over something that can be solved in 30 seconds.

Just my $.02.

tmv 07-09-2012 09:28 AM

I think this is a great idea.

Ricky Bobby 07-09-2012 09:30 AM

X2, i'll adjust my profile today.

TiAgX5 07-09-2012 09:46 AM

Ditto

SlickGT1 07-09-2012 09:47 AM

Excellent suggestion. This always catches me too. Especially people that post a help thread, with no info of location, or car model.

mgbmwx5 07-09-2012 09:48 AM

It makes sense!

CTSportX5 07-09-2012 10:16 AM

The guy has a point. Do it people..

TiAgX5 07-09-2012 11:11 AM

There has been at least a dozen times in the past few months I have had to post replies to the effect of "what engine/trans/audio system etc", only to get NO reply for WEEKS, even when the thead was "URGENT" in the title!!! I'm getting tired of pulling teeth trying to help others. URGENT my a$$.

TerminatorX5 07-09-2012 11:21 AM

How about standartizing that info? would that work? or, maybe listing the full list of factory options?

That would make your sig longer than the threads that you will post in. lol.

Dking05 07-09-2012 11:39 AM

Something like mine would work well. (Though I can't take full credit for it) :)

TwinTurboGTR 07-09-2012 11:43 AM

:iagree:

Its very frustrating when someone puts "Urgent" in the line, we try to get details and they are MIA.

One thing that peeves me is when someone comes here and asks a question. Just says, "My dash is saying, "Trans Fail Safe" what causes that?" Well WTH??? How the hell am I supposed to know? What year? How many miles? Is it 99-03 or is it 04-06???

Then when no one answers after a few hours, they BUMP. WHYYYYY??? Your thread is still at the top, just be patient. If it has been Days, then BUMP.

.....

They are too busy trying to figure it our themselves :D
How about transmission type in there too?

Ricky Bobby 07-09-2012 01:43 PM

i think sometimes people forget that this isn't a forum of ASE certified techs ready to go 24/7 lol

TwinTurboGTR 07-09-2012 03:10 PM

Agreed! Lol

And transmission info is a good idea as well.

SlickGT1 07-10-2012 02:58 PM

to the top.

bastereo 07-12-2012 12:50 AM

Well this does make it easier to answer questions for those who can't manage to include the info on their own...
It doesn't help the person who can't realize that this info is needed to answer nearly any question about said vehicle. They may be beyond help.

Also, the what "the what does my, 'trans failsafe,' "check engine light,' 'abs,' etc. mean?" is fantastic!
Cause anyone has the ability to figure out what the trouble code is and on top of that the fault at the source of said trouble code.

rogerkiu 07-12-2012 02:37 AM

Can't agree more!

TriX5 07-12-2012 07:54 AM

Have a little patience with others, a lot of them are freaked out over huge repair bills and when they land here they are usually desperate. But even those who post urgent may well eventually just stomach the cost and have it fixed, then forget about the post.

I got here when my CV boots needed replacing and I couldn't stomach 1000 USD bill for what seemed a straight forward job. This board was a great source of info and I realized after a while that there is a great sense of community as well. Once I accepted that I would have to wrench a lot more on the X to keep it rolling I have seen it mostly as a challenge.

Not every one sees it that way, most people would run a mile on the thought of touching a wrench.

Bast??? What do you mean??? You mean when someoe says, "SES light is on and blinking, what does this mean?" You cant precisely answer that on the fly?
What is wrong with you?

Yeah I agree with Tri. Some get the X as their first BMW because its a BMW! It's the ultimate driving machine and the commercials just make you as cool as Ryan Gossling in Drive. That is until you found out your CV boot is torn, oil is leaking like the Exxon Valdez, Dash looks like a pretty Christmas tree, and your new best friend; "BMW SA" has just finished sitting down with you, hand you your key fresh out of the transponding unit and hands you the estimate. You see a 4 digit number and start to hyper ventilate. The first thought that comes to your head is, "How much is the X worth?" Those that fear a wrench just say, "Ok, I guess it needs to be done." Hands over the plastic and thus begins monthly payments on a SAV you paid off free and clear. Those that are mechanically inclined come here and try to figure it out on their own and after they accomplish their first job, its like cocaine. Xoutpost begins to consume their lives.
Ya gotta love it.

SlickGT1 07-12-2012 09:55 AM

Xoutpost has consumed my life. Just wanted to put that out there.

"Just when I thought I was out, they pull me back in" or I should say my X pulls me back in. Sorry for the obscure Godfather reference but it's true!

TTGTR - great post by the way, have any of the mods started working on making this a requirement at sign up or at least a sticky?

TwinTurboGTR 07-12-2012 10:43 AM

Thanks! Isn't my original idea, but i couldn't find the original post. And it would be nice to make it a requirement. I don't know how hard it would be to write the code for it, but make it a part of the sign up process.

SlickGT1 07-15-2012 05:39 PM

Just in case someone missed this. Please read first post again.

On another note, WHEN THE HECK DID EVERYONE START SPORTING A 4.6/4.8? I'm jealous!!! Lol.

And the search continues.

Hey all,

Just wanted to say to those that haven't listed their X's year and engine in their signatures, please reference that information when starting new threads so that nobody has to guess. It's rather important so that you get the right information for the problems you are describing. Thanks to everybody for their contributions and knowledge. This site has saved many of us money we didn't need to spend and for that I am grateful.
