A maddening occurence
On my 06 4.4 evreytime you get in and turn on the car the sat nav units face will open. This happens every single time and will retract but will continue to open four times. Once it has been closed four times the face will stay closed. It still functions fully save for some bernt out pixels. Has anyone had this problem with their navigation and is there a fix beyond replacing the unit? On a side note id like to meet 2 people and lock them in the tiger cage at mgm; the idiot at BMW who thought using this outdated, tape player was a good idea in their top of the line suv, and the person who designed it.

Take it easy.. There's a fix for everything.
Have you checked the fuses? How old is your battery? Those are the first two places I would start.. |
I concur with Naz, the minute the batt starts getting low, strange things start to happen.
|
Battery is less than 6 mos old and I have not checked any fuses.ill check them today.
|
Fuses are fine.

Ok so wait, i should have asked this first. When you first get in, the Screen is in the closed position correct?
As soon as you turn the X on, the screen flips out, correct? Now do you have to push the button to close the unit or does it close on its own? After it closes, it opens on its own again? Until it hit the fourth time, then acts normally? Also, please put your information in your signature. Format: Year Type: i.e. X5 4.4i Transmission: 5 Speed Auto Options: Cold weather, premium, etc. |

Correct. |
have you tried putting a tape in. I'm curious if the brain is thinking that it wants to eject it. Try it.
|
I have tried the tape thing. Same situation.
|
Got yourself a "Christine" there, eh?
|
Ok another idea. Pull all the fuses for the nav. All of them. Search here on how to install Aux cable. Instructions have all the fuses listed. Pull them all, wait a bit, and put them back in.

Yea I concur with Slick. The module seems like it is flipping out. Try resetting these modules and trying that method first.
And please update your signature. |
Ok, i will try the fuse thing and report back. Sorry bout the signature. Ive been under my 500 sl all day changing suspension. Now, it should be ok!
|
Ohhh Faaaaa, 500SL, god bless ya bud! lol
|
Try keeping the tape in and shutoff the car with tape in and restart.
Does it happen if you reset everything and turn the car off momentarily then on or only on starts after a long time off? |
It happens when i open the door actually. Tape in or out.

E53 opens what?

I am happy to report the problem was solved by removing the fuses and resetting the unit as per Slick's suggestion. Just in case someone has the same trouble heres what to do: open your glovebox. on the roof of the glove box is a fusebox, there are tabs on either side, push those in and the panel folds down revealing a rather sizable fuse box. Remove fuse #7. Now got to the boot or trunk as we say in USA. On the right side there is a compartment that can be removed very easily, look inside and at the top there is a smaller fuse box. Remove fuses 72,73,74,75. Wait 5 to 10 minutes, put all fuses back in the order they were taken out. Turn your garden hose on, spray a healthy stream directly in the air and stand under it with your face pointed upwards. Start your X and the radio should be working fine. Thank you for everyones responses especially SlickGT1!!

Good stuff bud. Now you are in my club. I can't even mention how many little problems I've fixed by pulling fuses. Bluetooth, trunk softclose, nav froze. Also for the future keep in mind the relays. Those bastards stick from time to time too. Even pulling fuses does nothing. Pulling the relay, and back in, fixed quite a few other problems for me.
