your thoughts on these headlights
decided to look into buying new headlights instead of restoring original ones.
What are your thoughts on these??? 2001-2003 BMW X5 (E53) 2X HALO Project Headlights (JDM BLACK) | eBay |
please don't...That is ricey-looking things.
|
Unless you want to put a Honda badge on your beemer, don't buy them - I saw them on an X5 and they look out of place, disproportinate in reference to the rest of the car.
I myself bought a blacked out tail lights set with LEDs and then I took them off the car (you can see them on the avatar, the car in is Nicaragua all dirty but still can see blacked out tails), as they looked too "chinese"... Prior to that, I had a set of blackened OEM tail lights on E34 - that was real Hella, real McCoy!!! Since then I don't like that LED look on the new Mercedes, BMW, Audi - there are other technologies that provide a more upscale look than sparcely placed LEDs... My vote - NO!!! |
OP if you have to ask other people if you should, your not fully convinced yourself and you probably shouldn't. But if you like them, get them and be happy. Who cares what anybody says about them, its your X. As for the rice comments, those are probably the LEAST rice aftermarket headlights for the X5. There's no gaudy glowing strips or LED dots floating everywhere.
|
i have depo UHP without led and the bad ass! Alil more pricey but worth the drop. Also do not get led turns they have major defects. I do not know how to post pics so email me and ill send to ya.

:thumbdown
|
:smackass: for even thinking about putting them on the X5.
And Dark5yde, there is no such thing as "the LEAST rice aftermarket." It's either RICE or NOT. |
hahaha, how about a new by-law - NO MEMBER OF XOUTPOST SHALL PUT THOSE ON THEIR VEHICLE UNLESS THEY WANT TO BE PUNISHED!!!! or something to that effect!!!
|
hahaha, If you buy these lights - NO More Soup for you for one year!
|
poor seller on ebay probably got his hopes high - so many hits on his item in so little time!!! lol...
|
My point is you can have your opinions but until your fueling my X up and paying for its oil changes, your opinions are nothing more than that. Hell I dipped all the chrome on my X and people give me crap for ruining the BMW heritage whatever the F that is supposed to mean. To each his/her own.
|
I totally agree - to each his own!!!
If you like the chrome and Buick is not an option, then sure, go for it... It is your ride and you pimp it any which way you wish to have it pimped... it is your take on the aesthetics of an item, which might not coincide with the majority, but who says that the majority is right??? And if I don't like too much chrome, or the headlights, I just don't buy that car on the used car lot... and move on... the resale value is determined by how many people agree with the amount of chrome and are willing to pay for it... or not... On the other hand, the opinions were solicited, so due respect is expected... my $0.02 |
yeah, I mean when you look at after-markets they ALL look cheap, unless they are the DEPO brand which look some what acceptable.
But I was just thinking of trying to get these for 100 for both... as a cheap fix until I get the OE ones back to new condition... ----I would love to do angel eyes inside the OE ones, Is that hard to do? Any write ups or good videos? ----Also my stock 2002 fog lights are simply to plain. I would like them to be yellow or light blue with a little more power... any ideas? Thanks |
I used CCFL angel eyes, but was not happy with the life of ballasts. they are cheap, about $4.50 a pop, but i kept replacing them like there was no tomorrow.
Baking is the answer, there a few good write ups about AEs... |
Have you tried to polish up your headlights yet? And if I recall, you have stock halogens right (no HID?)
If you have Halogens, I would just get the DEPO replacements with projectors on ebay if you are going to replace them. I don't like the excess amber that comes on the halogen headlights. I have sport package with Xenons so my stock headlights I think are pretty nice as long as they are kept clean, and the amber is kept minimal with stealth bulbs. |

2. HID kit is the best option for more power. 3000K bulbs are yellow. 6000K or more will give you blue, all the way up to 12000K for purple. You can get-by with yellow tint bulb for the fogs. http://i300.photobucket.com/albums/n...5/DSCF0212.jpg |
go for blue tint - yellow fog lights look too French!!!! lol...

OP: I'll jump in and also give a  to those eBay lights. Yuck. |
^Thanks.
My X5 had the Halogen Reflector headlights to begin with. I'm gonna have stealth bulbs for the corners. |
ugly
|
My headlight had the xenon package installed when purchased. :) so not bad the way it is stock.
And here's the funny part. No one even bidded on those headlight |
