Front Differential Leaking...

My front differential is starting to seep oil out, It's not too dark so I'm sure it's not the engine oil. The engine and Front differential are right next to eachother.

Has anyone had a similar problem?

I'm curious how difficult it would be to pull out the front diff and repair all the seals.

I'll get some pics up so we can see what's really going on.

Thanks
Kevin

Are you sure. Clean that crap off and check the level in the diff. Check the valve covers.

How many miles since motor oil change?

Gear oil smells like ass by the way, have you given it a taste?

The oil is coming due here soon, I usually change out at 5K. I suppose it could be the valve covers I'll have to look deeper.

Taste the oil. I mean get it on your finger and smell it. It has a distinct gear oil smell. Smell your dipstick and your finger for comparison.

Here is the pic sorry took so long. I looked all around the differential and could only see the seam wet with oil.

This is a pic of where the transmission mounts to the back of the motor. I recently fixed the valley pan gasket, so I think the fluid residue here is going to dissapate over time.

Your approach is all wrong in my book. Get a couple of cans of brake cleaner. Spray the crap out of all that, and get it clean. Why close you eyes and wait till it dissipates? It will turn to muck, and future issues will be that much harder to spot or figure out. Clean it, and check it later. I still say get that fluid on your finger and smell it. Gear oil smells like donkey ass.

Never could describe gear oil. Now I know! Thanks(made me laugh so hard I cried)

Gear oil is so pungent, it makes the stink stay in my nose for a day. Smell your dipstick, and the oil on the diff for comparison.

Just pullin your chain!I had never heard it "Smells like Ass!" Its still crackin me up! But your right!
