Plastidipped wheels :D

How does it look? I like it but I think it looks weird at the same time. I've gotten complements about how sick my car looks with it but I don't know. hahah. Please let me know what you guys think.

You also pray it on the tires too? I don't think it would last long on the tires, and when it starts peeling, the one on the wheels would start going too.

J_Mainie 07-20-2012 03:43 PM

I got tire shine on the tires. hahah; yeah I sprayed it on the tire but then peeled it off so i could get the plastidip everywhere on the rim.

TwinTurboGTR 07-20-2012 03:55 PM

Yeah, no I don't like. It washes the car out IMHO. If you wanted to go darker on the wheels, get a shadow effect.

I forgot who makes it, but there is a company that makes a spray that goes on chrome to give it that black chrome look. It actually looks pretty good. Just know know how long it would last.

J_Mainie 07-20-2012 04:05 PM

I wanted to get a more flat black on the rim instead of something glossy and shiny.

TwinTurboGTR 07-20-2012 04:11 PM

IDK, Even if it was flat, it would still wash it out. Its just the 17's with the taller sidewall is just too much black. If the rim was bigger and the spoke pattern was more defined, then it would work, but just with those, it just doesn't look right. Again, Just my opinion.

I like it! Same rims as me and thats my plan as well. As for spraying the rims and having issues. You won't, we got guys around this area (buffalo) that have had their rims sprayed for 3yrs now. So no worries there.

TwinTurboGTR 07-20-2012 04:15 PM

Hey Dark, I am just curious. SO how would you clean the wheels? Usually I will use Sonax Full Effects wheel cleaner, iron cut, assortment of brushes and sometimes a powerwasher. How does the plastidip hold up with all of that?

J_Mainie 07-20-2012 04:23 PM

That's the exact same thing I was thinking about in my head while I was spraying it TwinTurbo. It's just temporary right now, I'm getting me some wheels some time soon.

Dark5yde 07-20-2012 04:26 PM

I have all my chrome emblems done and I have asked them the same questions. I have been through the car wash numerous times with no issue. Power washers with no issue as well. As for harsh chemical cleaners I cant answer that.

Hi guys

i was just wondering to see this topic here, because I made same topic in our local Slovakian BMW forum :-), so I mean it doesn´t matter where you are, ideas are very similar:-).

I made my wheel black as well and it works well for me so far.
But first of all I had to say I was looking for something to maintain rubber parts. I bought one can of Plasti-DIP to maintain all rubber sealing parts in car and spraying of wheels was something additional to me.

I think surface is roughly as I want to be and definitely I wanted to change from gloss to dull and this is OK with me also.

see my pictures.

greetings from Slovakia

I did mine too. I get compliments all the time and it looks pretty aggressive. Also has the added benefit that I don't have to clean the wheels as much.

I've only had to touch them up a couple times for curb rash. (damn my crazy driving)Attachment 55138

Sorry, not a great pic but...

Just my opinion but I think that the combination of 17" size, basic style, and blacked out makes it look like you have steel wheels without hubcaps. As someone else mentioned, the tall tire sidewall relative the matte black wheels looks odd.

Disregard this if you love them and enjoy them. It's your ride but you asked....
