Temp sensor or hose?
Hi All,
I have a leak at the temp sensor/hose connection on my cooling system. I don't know if the sensor has the O ring around it or the hose has the O ring inside it. To save me buying both parts when I may only need one does anyone know what the case is regarding the O ring situation? Before anyone says 'take it apart and have a look', I'm hoping someone has the answer before I have to drain the system to take it apart, then re-fill, then buy the part(s), then drain AGAIN:(, then re-fill AGAIN:(! |

Parts 2 and 16..

You are in luck. I just replaced all the hoses. Part 16 comes with O ring on it. Part 2, if the connection is leaking at the radiator, or thermostat, you will need the entire hose.

Thanks mate, much appreciated.
Its just leaking at that connection point-typical as I've just replaced the rad! Obviously without taking it apart I can't tell which has the O ring. Now that you have cleared that up for me I'll buy that first. If it still leaks after I'll know the seat in the hose has gone so I'll have to replace the hose also.. |
The hose setup on the 4.8is is way simpler. I replaced that sensor as well. I mean, 80k miles, might as well. The hole is very small, so you might be able to get it out, and new one in quick enough without losing too much coolant. Take off the electrical connection first. That metal clip needs to get pushed in. Then you will see the two ears that need to be pressed in as well.

Thanks for the info Slick. I've decided to forego being el cheapo and just get both anyway. Mine's done 113k and I haven't changed either so I don't know if they're original or not. :dunno:
And to save me more grief I'm better off replacing both because if the O ring seat in the hose has gone aswell as the O ring on the temp sensor it would mean I'd have to get it, drain it, fit it, and... refill it...AGAIN! |
Now that's a good plan. My expansion tank cracked, so at 80k I figured change em all.
