Ok, "camshaft over retarded" means the dme thinks the camshaft is off at least a few degrees from where it should be.
The sensor is not likely the fault. Unless you figured out how to move it into a new location... The sensor is not going to read the position wrong.

That leaves a mechanical fault... (or the unlikely failed dme)
Timing chain, vanos adjuster, tone ring (part the sensor reads)...

I just looked up the code.
Says it is a rationality check of the relationship between the crankshaft and camshaft. The vanos must be active and the dme must be commanding >2 degrees camshaft timing change.

Cam Sensor Code 22

OK. Thanks for answering my post from earlier today. :D

Anyone have any ideas on the fix here? :dunno:

I did the same as lowlows18, Replaced both CPS's. In my case I now have a misfire in Cy.#4 and "Multiple Cyl. misfires". This AFTER new CPS install, clear codes, engine up to normal operating temp. Check engine light starts blinking (contrasted with comes ON-stays ON) at revs>1500. Light goes out at idle.
Guessing now: Replace VANOS Solenoid? Replace timing chain? Go to the Stealer?

Thanks!
