New x5 Owner! :)

Hello everyone, Just registered to the site! I am now the proud owner of a one owner 2005 3.0 x5 fully loaded with 67k miles. Car is beautiful inside out! after much creeping(lol) on this site prior to my purchase I figured it was about time I would register. Lots of great information on here that helped alot with deciding if it was a good buy too! I plan on doing the Auxiliary Input mod on my car and i've been reading alot of guides on how to make the cable, which i'd much rather prefer than spending $30ish dollars on one. i've come across some guides on other forums for diagrams but it's for what seems to be the stock radio, I'm looking for one that works with the 16:9 Navigation..

welcome to the forum... some of us just came back from the bimmerfesr east, i wish you were there too with your new ride...

do you have factory nav? do you know the options the car came with?

euge 08-27-2012 10:37 AM

Thanks! how often is it held per year? and yes, it is a factory nav, has every option with the premium and cold package, bluetooth and a few others, according to this thread

bimmerfest east is annual, this was second one... something else is coming up in Baltimore on the 14th, i need to look into it...

with factory nav, you should have a BM53 radio module in the trunk, that might be capable of AUX input as it is... there threads that address this subject... the radio is in the trunk, kind of hard to get to, but possible... there were several versions of BM53 radios, earlier ones did not support AUX...

if you post or PM your last 7 digits of VIN, i can get you back your full factory spec'd option list...

I also just picked up an X5. Replaced a Dodge Dakota (real POS) with a 2001 3.0 with 124K miles. doesnt have a lot of the froo froo stuff that tends to crap out, so looking towards a long relationship with this thing.

lol, scott - you will be surprised how much can go wrong!!!! lol...

Not trying to scare you, just before making any decisions about the X, check with this forum, chances are someone, sometime, has already dealt with it... It will save you a gazillion of greenbacks, so you can take a vacation... or a trip somewhere... or, just spend more on the mods for the car!!!!

Euge, in your option list, it did not list the BT (or, I did not see it), so yours is retrofitted... check the part number against the list at bimmernav.com, to see what generation you have... you know where to find the BT unit, right?

agreed, lots can still go wrong, but its also a matter of what you can fix yourself, and what you can live with. I have the low-tech gauges, so im not terribly concerned about the pixel issue, and the radio is the same deal. dont really care about a few missing pixels (none gone, Yet.....) I dont have the air springs, so that issue is a moot point, the regulators cannot possibly be worse than the dodge (replaced religiously due to breakage about every 8 months......) leaving the major issue being the auto trans. Luckily this isnt my first Bimmer (have/had several e30's that I have rebuilt/modified), so I have most of the specialty tools needed for the goofy fasteners BMW loved to use for different things.

Yes, the name's short for eugene lol, i was under the impression that it did infact have bluetooth. where would I be able to find it? i will try to snap some pictures for you guys tomorrow!!

I wouldn't talk down about your previous ride (karma), these things (X5) aren't exactly Toyotas and Hondas, ie; trouble free, as you'll soon find out.

TerminatorX5 08-27-2012 10:41 PM

do you know where your nav unit is? the BT will be buried in that bracket, deeper into the well... it might installed at an angle, ass sticking out at you, head buried deeper towards the front...

sorry for the long wait! haven't been around the past few days and finally got some shots of it taken with the iphone 5 after a nice wash! I added an Auxiliary input and it works really well! i was thinking on adding a backup camera but I understand that I need a tv tuner or something. i took a picture of the rear nav dvd player, do i have it?

tmv 09-25-2012 06:41 PM

Looks good. I spot a missing Rest/Max button on your HVAC

TwinTurboGTR 09-25-2012 06:57 PM

Looks good bud! Yeah you are missing the MAX A/C button. As for the back up camera, I don't think you need a tv tuner, I think you just need the hitch wiring harness for the wiring. People have done it, do a search, should be filled with stuff.

eugene,

you do have a BT unit, it can be seen under the nav computer, mounted at an angle, with a pink FAKRA connector. On the side of the unit should be a label, that will have the BT password, unless you already have the PW from the manual booklet..

for the reverse cvamera you do need either a factory TV Module or a special reverse camera module (very rare part, and I don't recall seeing it at all). Instead of a TV module, people have used other, aftermarket devices but I can't help you with it, as each aftermarket device might have its own, unique considerations...

The trailer module is used for the rear fog lights, for the fog lights you need a switch upfront that supports rear fog lights (euro switch), a wire from the switch to the LCM, then set of wires from the trailer module to the blind sockets for the rear fogs, you will need to install into those sockets the bulb holders. The LCM should support the rear fogs...

euge 09-26-2012 10:11 PM

Bluetooth appears on my phone, but my car didn't come with a manual. and i can't seem to find a label on the BT unit with the pink wire, maybe i'm looking at the wrong thing?

TerminatorX5 09-26-2012 10:18 PM

did you pull the BT unit completely out? and looked at all 6 sides of the box? If you did, and there is no label to see the passcode, then...

in that case you need a free software, I think it is called NavCoder, from Kiwi guy in Switzerland - his software can connect to the BT (if you have the right cable to connect your laptop to the car), and then it can read the BT passcode

I pm'ed you. I have it for sell in the classified

euge 09-29-2012 10:53 PM

I PMd you! also got the bluetooth working like a champ. all i had to do was remove the plastic housing next to it and the label was right on top of the BT unit with the passcode!

TerminatorX5 09-29-2012 10:58 PM

excellent!!! does the Voice recognition work too?

euge 09-29-2012 11:02 PM

didn't try that yet.. kind of rushed the whole process lol, i'll mess around with it more tomorrow. also, is it possible to play music through BT?

TerminatorX5 09-29-2012 11:08 PM

i haven't tried, but i don't think so... besides, BT behaves differently with different phone models - with my "newer" smart Win 6.1 phone i only get phone book and the calls, with older motorola razr (really old version) I also was getting text messages on the screen... with the same 12th gen BT unit... go figure... :)

euge 10-01-2012 11:19 PM

Any ideas on where to look for the TV Tuner? I'm really interested in adding a backup camera, got a really narrow driveway with big trucks into a busy street lol

TerminatorX5 10-02-2012 12:36 AM

ebay... the tv tuner is useless in the US for tv reception, as we are all digital now but it gives you an AV input (mono, not stereo) and reverse camera integration. look for hybrid, analogue and digital, even though it still doesn't matter.

also, if you can source the parts 61 31 8 368 345and 61 31 8 368 346,

you will be able to utilize factory spots for the AV input...
