from BMW WDS online

Optical element

The optical element is adhered to the windshield behind the rear-view mirror. It consists of a glass body (prism) which routes the beams emitted by infrared diodes at a defined angle to the windshield. The light beams reflected by the windshield are routed by the optical element to the infrared receivers.
The optical element is heated by a heating element to ensure condensation cannot form on it.
The optical element is bonded together with the windshield in a special process such as to guarantee the physical properties of the system. This bonding process cannot be carried out in the workshop. Therefore when replacing the windshield, a special windshield with the optical element already bonded to it must be used.

That blows. Mine has bubbling, but knock on wood, the system works just fine.

Did you remove the mirror mount from the windshield?

Or are you talking about re-attaching the rearview mirror to the windshield mount?

I think I read somewhere that the rearview mirror itself just rotates onto the mount. Just twist it on.

If memory serves me, there's a TIS that talks about this. On the X5, there's supposed to be what looks like an air bubble on the lower corner (closer to the driver side - LHS) of the sensor. I have it on my X5. OTOH, my MCoupe doesn't have such air bubble :dunno:

Why are you trying so hard to get rid of the air bubble? Is the rain sensor not working properly? As long as it's operating properly, I couldn't care less if there's a bubble or not.

rain sensor not working, i will silicone it back 2gether 2day, well c if it works, if not than i dont care for it anyways cuz it never worked in the first place

on a side note, anyone know what the part number is for the actual plastic piece that mounts to the window its purple and has 8 lil light reflector things, not the sensor
