Need location of cyclone valve (crankcase vent valve) on a 4.4
I have the P174 and i will need to change this and possible the hoses. I found
this on the real oem but was not sure if this is the actual part i need? Part#1 and the respective hoses RealOEM.com * BMW E53 X5 4.4i Crankcase-Ventilation/oil separator |
Yes, that is the part that you need. That part is located by the pass side valve cover in the back. You will need to remove the acoustical cover and microfilter assembly to access it.

Depending on the amount of miles on her already, you should think about replacing that diaphragm anyways. Also depending on how many miles, many of those parts may be brittle and will just fall apart in your hands. If you look at the diagram:http://realoem.com/bmw/diagrams/t/x/61.png
Part 9 that connects to part 14 is a real PITA, even wil everything out of there. Part 14 is really scrunched low in the bay. You may also find part 12 that connects to part 14 has disintegrated into a fine dust. This job can lead you down a road of much cursing if you are not prepared. It is easier to remove the valve covers and intake manifold and do those parts on the bench then doing them on there car. his also gives you an opportunity to change the valve cover gaskets and sparks as well. It will prob take you just as long to get that one part out and installed then it would for you to remove the entire assembly. |
yeah! I will have to open it up and see how many parts needs to be changed out this looks like a $250 job on my own.
Well my patience was recently tested with a head gasket replacement on an e36 recently so their some left but not too much. I like how on the DIY he cut part #9 into two and added a "extention" in order to make it longer and have enough to clamp on both sides since he says that the size of this is shorter than need it. |
