So I did a transmission flush and now...
 

So my X has 114k miles on it and I decided to get the transmission fluid flushed (and filter replaced) since there shifts were getting a little rough (mainly 2-3 and barely noticeable, but it drove me nuts). Before you guys flame me, my trans pan had a leak at 60k miles and was replaced along with 5q of fluid. Anyways after the flush the shifts are gentle and crisp, exactly what I was hoping for. To my surprise, however, the shift points seem a lot higher. Keep in mind the transmission is not in sport mode. I notice I am holding the gears quite a bit longer than before. Could this be due to a transmission module reset or something that they do at the same time?

When you drive in sport mode are the shift points even higher or the same as non-sport mode?

The shift points are slightly higher in sport mode. Of course I've been trying to baby the transmission thorough this "second break in", so I'm not sure how accurate that is.

There are transmission adaptations, that I would reset if I was doing it.
Also, double check the fluid level.
What fluid did you use?

I agree, check level ASAP. Just to make sure.

Did you actually flush the tranmission or just drain/replace the fluid along with the filter? There are complaints on bimmerforums from E39 owners (same transmission) about tranny fail after flush.

This reminds me, I should drain the pan again.

I also noticed quicker shifts after the first time I dropped the pan and changed the filter. :thumbup:

I used about 3 qts of inexpensive castrol import ATF for about $6/qt from autozone.

So to update everyone on my status...

It was a drain and refill w/ new filter, sorry I stated flush. The shop used the correct fluid.

The higher shift points continued so I took it back to the shop that did the work. They checked the fluid level and said it was correct. My adviser did notice the higher shifting points and said this was similar to a slipping clutch but hasn't quite progressed as far. He recommended I put some more miles on it before anything additional was done. He said there are two options at this point:
1) Wait it out... permanently
2) Wait it out a bit more followed by a filter change, but retaining the same fluid

Since I've only put about 300 miles on it since the change, I'm going to wait it out regardless. He said he'd like to see at least 1000 miles on the transmission before any decisions are made. Like I said it shifts very smoothly and quickly, just at about 200-300 higher RPM than before.

Try resetting the adaptations yourself with the gas pedal. There is a procedure on here somewhere.

At least then you have a baseline on adaptations while you "put some more miles on it"...
