Light from shifter stays illuminated
2000 x5 automatic
I just noticed today that the orange light on the shifter stays illuminated after all doors are closed and the interior light has gone out. I just happened to notice it while I was walking past it. I've only owned it for less than 2 weeks. I'm guessing this is a definite battery drain. Is this light suppose to go off when the headlights are turned off or when the interior light fades away? Thanks in advance. |
The orange light on the gear shift should go out after about 16 minutes .
I think the handbook for the car has all the information on which systems stay active for a time after the vehicle is locked. When that light goes out , the vehicle is in sleep mode . |
Yup exactly what amacman said. It will eventually go off. Nothing to worry about.

Cool, thanks guys.

On some vehicles this light does not go out but the vehicle still enters "sleep" mode. Do a search and you'll get all the info you can use.

Zulu95 is right. It doesn't go out on my E53. Your battery should be fine.

Thanks guys.
It actually did go out a few minutes after i noticed it, just like Amacman said it would. |
