Different kind of AC Question

So, the AC just doesn't turn on - took to my local mechanic who is a friend and by just looking, it needs more attention than adding freeon, etc... the actual fan isn't turning.

Assuming this is not an easy or economic fix, I was considering holding off until next spring just for the simple reason that I don't need AC right now (in New England - Fall weather), and might as well put it off and hold on to the cash.

Any harm in doing this and is the AC independent as far as having an affect on any other systems?

Thanks!

I think if the fan doesn't work then you don't have defrost function either. I think you might need that, dont you?

Might check fuses first. Then see if your friend can scan and get some codes for you.

See this thread. Maybe the FSR will be the fix. However, do more searches.

that is very helpful and was my concern - exactly why this forum is great! checked the fuses already....

Here's an FSR fix for you.

IIRC, that fix worked for some that had theirs not working too. Worst case is buy an OE FSR.

Yes quite a few people said the FSR fixed a dead fan as well.

Which fan are we talking about anyway. You say AC, so I figured the aux fan isn't turning. The interior blower fan works, correct?

If aux fan, then freon might help. The aux fan reads the pressure in the system. It will turn on if freon is low.

yes, interior fan is fine - exterior only. we had it on max with hood open, stared at the fan and nothing - air was very warm (as was weather) even tried to give belt a quick nudge. Freeon was tested, it is full.

How was the freon tested. With a proper machine, or with one of those $20 gauges.

good question - i am not 100% sure. Are you saying I should just try to add freon? Mechanic claimed freon was not the issue and in full disclosure before taking it there i did try the gauge on my own to see if I could avoid this and it read that it was actually overfilled. the mechanic is a friend and does gret work however I am not sure the diagnostics equipment is top level.
