weird X5 activity
so this is the second time this happened to me...
my driveway is on a high slope... in the morning i start the X to get to work. temperature is about 60F. it starts normally. rev it a bit, let it run for about a minute. than i shift into R and slowly back up the driveway. keeping my foot on the break and slowly backing up... than it starts to panic and shut off on its own. i put into P and start it right back up. weird. Could this have something to do with the trans safe? what could cause this? any help appreciated. thanks. 2002 X5 3.0i |
What do you mean when you say "Panic"? Does a christmas tree light up on your dash? Any lights, sounds? etc?
Does the motor stumble, hesitate, hiccup? Let us know. |
by panic i mean it sounds like gasps for air, running rough and shuts off, took about seconds to shut off
No lights or anything |
How much fuel is in the car when this happens? Strange really. Have you tried facing the car the other way?
|
Do you get the'trans safe message'
|
I'm just curious, has the X ever stumbled when driving? Maybe erratic idle or throttle response when you mash the pedal to Wide open throttle?
How many miles are on your X again? It almost sounds like the X is stumbling on fuel. Maybe fuel filter is restricted? Not letting enough fuel in? |
weird, i never had a problem on it.... fuel almost full. and no messages on screen. and 92k miles
|
During the last 11 years i had mine X5 (3.0) it's happened twice on me ....It was the idle control valve.
|
The DISA butterfly valve?
|
So its some kind of valve than? that closes up.
well i have 92,500 and i changed oil at 90,888 i used mobil 1 5w 30 syntetic. couldnt find castrol at the time. the mobil 1 seems to burn quickly and it got really dirty after 1000 miles. filter and everything was changed. so ill wait for 93500miles and do a full maintenance check and oil change. |
