ABS, DSC, Brake warning lights

Perhaps someone here has ans answer for me because I am now officially stumped. Was getting the above warning lights along with a trns.fail.safe and an inactive speedometer. Changed out a new left wheel sensor and it did not fix the problem. The obvious fix seemed to be having the ECU rebuilt. Of which I had done. Got it back today, had it installed and low and behold after driving for 5 minutes the warning lights tripped on again although strangely enough the speedo works.

Any ideas on what to check next?? Could it be a bad ECU rebuild or something else?? Oh by the way, its a 2003 4.4 litre X5

You need to get your car hooked up to a computer that can check for faults in that area. Either the dealer, or an independent shop that has something like an Autologic scan tool is necessary. There is no sense throwing parts at these cars until you do this; many new components will not even work until coded by the scan tool. Not to mention that the scan tool can often point you to the exact location of the problem.

When was the last time the battery was replaced? Also, try this. Turn the car on to pos II, turn the steering wheel to the right (All the way to lock) and then all the way Left then back to center. See if that clears the lights.

Ohhhh, position II, that may of been why it didn't work for me. I tried it while the car was running. In position 2 should the steering turn as far as when it's running? I hope not given power steering wouldn't be on.

Whoops, no, I am wrong and you are right. I just checked my procedures page to make sure. Motor must be running.

So you are getting the same lights now?

Wow, straight to the ECU rebuild?! How much was that? I'm curious.

Save yourself a lot of headache, time and money. Like everyone is saying you need to get it scanned for faults.

Im thinking wiring or connectors...your ECU was perfectly fine, just moving the wires and connectors fixed part of the symptoms....

My 2 cents, given the lack of proper diagnostic info...maybe have it scanned for actual fault codes, not OBD but BMW specific diagnostic modules scans...

take a obd2 code scanner to test. if you get fault code, you will know what problem caused the light on.
