Advise. Alpina Badge

My friend had an Alpina B7. Yes, that is the most tits land yacht evah.

Ok so at some point he ordered new Alpina badges. He paid something stupid for it.

Long story short, he got rid of the B7, and offered me all the badges for a great price of a case of beer. Which he mooches off me anyway every time he comes over. lol. He is even offering to get me the matching rear badge, as the size is different. So my question, will I be super rice if I put them on. They look really nice. I like the logo a lot. The only Alpina thing I can think of on the 4.8is is the engine.

This is from Wiki, so not sure how true it is, but google searches get me to the same result.

"A sporty model badged 4.6is was released in 2002, having both exterior and interior decorations, including 20-inch wheels. The 4.6L V8 engine was developed by Alpina from the 4.4L V8. A sporty model badged 4.8is was also released a few years later replacing the 4.6 engine with a 4.8-litre (also developed by Alpina and used in Alpina Roadster V8, based on BMW E52 Z8). X5 4.8is was labelled "fastest SUV in the world".

See pic of the badge.

What do you guys think, rice, or ok? I don't want some Alpina die hard throwing shit at me or something.

I think the Alpina badges are super cool. Can you confirm they are authentic? There are a ton of cheap replica badges around.

You could always throw one on the front just to see how it looks, if you don't like it then switch back.

Not rice at all, IMO.

I LOVE the Aplina badges, but at the same time I have a hard time removing roundels to replace them with anything other than fresh clean BMW roundels.

I think it's wrong. I don't think Alpina owners are in the catergory of drivers that would throw stuff at you but it's not an Alpina so why badge it that way? Just my 2 cents.

I saw an X3 with ///M badges on it the other day

Personally, I wouldn't do it. As cool as those badges are, it would hard for me to justify it.

SlickGT1 09-25-2012 11:37 AM

Yea the badges are legit. He is crazy, and wanted spares because he had his swiped before.

I have a hard time justifying putting them on the X as well. But they are so freaking cool. I know I can always take them off. But it would be difficult to explain to people that the only Alpina thing on the car is the engine developed by them.

I think it would be proper. I don't see anything wrong with it IMHO opinion. Engine was made by Alpina, so I think Badging would suit it. A M badge on an X3, yeah I hear you. That isn't right B/C there is no M model. I say go for it! But if they are $500 then, stick with the Blue and White lol

Under that logic, the Alpina Badge shouldn't be on the B7 then. There was this special on TV. Like one of those "How do they do it? How it's made" shows. The body and such is made by BMW while the motor is built by Alpina. Once the engine is shipped to BMW. Bmw fits it and then send it to Alpina for their own touches and puts the badge on.

Pretty much the same thing with the 4.8is if I am understanding it properly. Motor made by Alpina, Alpina ships the motor to BMW. BMW fits it, finishes it, slaps the sticker on it and off it goes. So it is missing the step going back to Alpina and doesn't have a serial number from Alpina. My point, motor built by Alpina, Alpina badge fits.

Unless it's an Alpina X5 (which is non-existent) I would not put that badge on.

epdarks 09-25-2012 12:12 PM

By that logic, if the truck didn't come DINAN from the factory then you can't put on a DINAN badge?

Alpina does make parts for the X5.

You should first confirm that the badges are the correct size for the X. Then you should sell them to me for $20.
