New Double Din Pioneer install

I just ordered new double din Pioneer p4400. Once installed I will share some pics with you guys and some opinions.

spcalan1 09-29-2012 12:47 PM

I would like to see it.

romeokc10 10-01-2012 04:01 PM

Keep us updated, do you have DSP?

Rado 10-01-2012 04:51 PM

I will post pics once I install it. It will arrive this Thursday. I do not have DSP, so it should be easy install just like the Hualingan unit was easy.

Rado 10-08-2012 09:32 AM

So, here is the update. I installed the new Pioneer 4400bh and it just awesome. The sound is better even before I plugged in the subwoofer from BSW. The install was a breeze with the new harness, steering wheel remote control are working fine with the axxess module and I also added the satellite radio, the only thing is that I had to put the XM box in the glove box, since it was a little too big to fit in the whole behind the double din. I still have the Hualingan unit for sale if someone is interested. It is working fine and has everything except the antenna adapter, but you can get it online.
Here are some pics...Let me know if you have any questions.

I think you linked the attachments from an email address. Try hosting them on tinypic or a similar photo hosting site.

Ok. I hope they are uploaded good now. Let me know if you see them. Sorry about earlier. I will attache some more of my BSW subwoofer tonight.

Cpl questions for ya. The unit you had in, why the change? Also how much you selling for. Just curious. And the intake....can you hear it? Hear it enough to make it a worthwhile addition?

I changed the Hualingan because I wanted to add more features like HD radio and/or Satellite radio plus more EQ controls. This pioneer has all that I need without the navigation, but I was not using the navi on the hualingan too much anyway. I'm willing to sell it for $225+shipping.

The intake is nice. You can't hear it below 4000RPM, but so far it saved me on gas, because of the much improved air flow.

Here are some pics of the BSW sub and amp that I installed last year. And a pic of the old Hulaingan that is up for sale.

Does anyone know how to properly tune up the new pioneer EQ and subwoofer amp. The pioneer has built in subwoofer controls and crossovers for highs and lows and loudness control. Not sure where to start to tune it up perfect. I read a lot of online suggestions but most of them contradicting each other, so I'm confused a little. Anyway, if someone is familiar with the pioneer and audio set ups please let me know.

Eq will vary by personal preference, vehicle & system setup. Setting your crossover freq. and high pass filters on the components (door speakers) is a good place to start. The HPF will allow you to remove frequencies that are too low for components to reproduce. From there tackle the sub. You'll want the crossover frequency a bit higher than the cutoff point of the components. As far as level, try to get everything to blend. The last step is to then play with the graphic eq, boosting and cutting individual frequency ranges (fine tuning).

I usually Leave the loudness and bass booster settings off and "0" simply because they tend to degrade overall audio clarity.

My apologies if this is a bit vague, there isn't really a "turn this dial to 8, and this to 100hz" answer for something like this....

Thanks for reply X5SND. I’m somewhat familiar with the basics, but for some reason I have hard time adjusting all settings to my taste. Right now I have the EQ to flat, bass boost to 0, loudness OFF. I’ve set up the HU HPF to 80hz and the LPF to 80hz as well on the pioneer head unit. Also, the sub amp has been set to 80hz and gain is almost at minimum, which should match the 4v rca outputs from the HU. Not sure if the HU controls all the sub amp adjustments, or do I have to do it only on either HU or only at the sub amp or both at same time…(should I turn the hpf of HU off and leave it for the factory amp of the bmw to take care of this).
Very confusing and at the end I have a feeling that it has to be set up a little better than the basics with EQ and everything else.

Thanks again for all the help I can get.

in for later

X5SND 10-09-2012 03:48 PM

Lets deal with the sub:
If you set the LPF to 80hz, that means that the signal travelling through the rca's to your sub amp only goes up to 80hz. Now you can also use the filter on the amp to further remove frequencies from this signal...kind of like a 2 stage filter. You dont HAVE to use both, its up to you. I would, however, recommend bumping the HU sub freq to 100hz or higher then using the amp adjustment to fine tune it. The factory mid-bass speakers arent very good below 100hz, thus this is the point I would have the sub start to take over the bass spectrum.

I would definitely use the HU HPF to discard anything below 80hz to the door speakers.

Also when it comes to adjusting the graphic eq freq ranges, it really helps to put in a track you know well. This way its easier to listen for sounds you know, and adjust accordingly. Something with a good source (ie FLAC or lossless) helps, DO NOT USE THE RADIO.

Hope this helps.
Hope this helps.

Thanks a lot. I will try it later on. Just to sum it up:
HU LPF set to 100hz
HU HPF set to 80hz or 100?
Subwoofer amp LPF set to around 80hz or 100? as well and gain to almost min to match the 4v inputs.

X5SND 10-09-2012 04:12 PM

HU LPF - 100hz - Depending on the midbass speakers you may need to bump this up a bit higher.
HU HPF - 80hz - its a good starting point. Turn the sub off when adjusting this. If you hear it taking out the bottom end, you've gone too high.
SA LPF - 100hz - you can always play around with this one, just remember the upper limit is set by your HU LPF.

Thanks. I will definitely try this out. What would you suggest after this is set up. I mean what about the EQ, should I leave at flat, or loudness leave off, any other settings. Your signature shows you have a pioneer unit as well. What r ur settings there?
Thanks again for your help.
