Panoramic Roof Shade Upholstery Sagging..

The upholstery on the big panoramic roof sunshade on my 04 X5 is beginning to sag a bit.

Can this be fixed without removing the shade?

Or do I have to remove the shade?

Or (heaven forbid) does the whole pano roof cassete need to come down?

Tried to search but could not find any info.

I have the same issue on my X5. How did you go about on repairing it?

I haven't done it but I believe if you remove the rear glass, you can then sequentially remove both of the sunshades for recovering. You don't have to drop the whole headliner or the sunroof cassette, although people have done so.

Mine has the same problem. The larger forward part is sagging. If removing the rear glass gives access, I may go that approach. The other was to remove lining, trim it, and put it back on. I don't mind a little gap around it. Who looks up anyway?

Had mine done at Steve's Sunroof in Edgewater Park, NJ. Took out sunroof cassette and recovered headliner and sliding panels including all the pillars. Said he wasn't comfortable taking out panels through top although he said it could be done. My headliner was starting to sag and bit the bullet to get it all done at once as I plan on keeping my X5 forever. He also fixed a few screwups with my sunroof that BMW did when last serviced. Hold onto your wallet, cost me $2,300 but I thought was worth it considering all the work it took and how nice it came out.

Does he also do work on rebuilding the sunroof units? I disabled my rear glass when it failed then I learned a lot of those pieces are cracked and deteriorated. I would be happy to give the work to someone who is confident since I want to keep this car forever just like you lol. It was built the day after my birthday!
