Motive Power Bleeder
 

Anyone in NYC have a Motive Power Bleeder I can borrow/rent to bleed my system? I refuse to buy it due to not having a garage. One of the things I hate about owning a condo.

Errr, bud I had one then sold it. I hated the thing. Made more of a mess then helped. What I have done was... I know it will take a while. but it get the job done.

So get a short pole(I use a scrapped ice scraper. You know the ones with the short scraper and long brush?) Pop your 10mm wrench and a 1/4" clear tube and fit both over the bleeder. Pump the brakes, get then tight and wedge the pole between the seat and pedal. Go back, crack the screw, bleed, close up, and do it again. I actually kept doing this after I got the motive. After the first time I used it, it ended up wasting fluid and not providing enough pressure. Read all the directions and I was doing it right, then read more reviews and people had the same result.

So basically keep doing this to all 4 calipers. Should I be adding new fluid with every pump?

I've read, and correct me if I am wrong that this procedure can cause air to enter into the ABS system.

ha...ha....ha... the motive is marriage saver to me; I guess I am kinda demanding when it comes to extra hands so I never bother my wife pumping the brake.

BTW, I never fill the Motive with brake fluid, what I do is empty the brake reservoir as much as I can, top it with fresh fluid then hook motive to pump air to pressurize the brake reservoir; just remember to top it off one caliper at the time. no mess no fuss.

Yea, start with the pass rear, then driver rear, then pass front, then driver front. Basically start away... Err you know this already lol.

Anyways, yeah do it with all four. I don't see how air can enter the abs this way. If you keep the tank full and make sure the brake pedal is basically to the floor before you crack the bleeder, you should be fine.

I've done this, errr....??? 6 times over the years with the X. It was when I was by myself, and this worked it a pinch. It does take longer, but gets the job done.

Funny thing is, the wife is the main reason why I am looking to bleed/refresh the fluid. Since my accident, when I told her that I couldn't brake fast enough when the douche in front of me decided last minute that he did not want to take a yellow light she thinks it has to do with the brake system in our X. So she googled the shit outta brake systems in X5's and asked me when was the last time I changed the fluid and I said 2010. So she's been on a rampage about changing it. Shit she even bought the DOT 4 fluid.
