72/02 - Signal, camshaft position sensor, bank 2
I have the code reader BMW scanner V1.4.0 and I am getting this code come up:
72/02 - Signal, camshaft position sensor, bank 2 I own a 2002 4.6L. The vehicle seems to be running fine but Im sure it needs to be repaired. Can someone point me in the right direction? |
Are you getting a SES light on the dash? I mean, should you replace it??? It wouldn't hurt. I got the SES code to come on for the CSS, but replaced both sides. Can the sensor be repaired??? I don't think so, it is a sealed unit. In any case, the sensor is about $100, and only use OE. From the dealer or another parts counter. Do not use anything else but the OE or you will see it wil fail in a few months and you will need to replace it again. Bank 2 is on the drivers side.

no ses on the dash. Is there two or just one that i need to replace. I've read some threads and they have replaced one then had to go back and replace the other one (same side). Anywhere I could go for a write up to replace or a diagram that shows where it is located?
Thanks for the oem suggestion, i also seen the posts with the horror stories of replacing them shortly after install. |
There is one sensor per bank, so 2 total. I don;t know what you mean by, "I've read some threads and they have replaced one then had to go back and replace the other one (Same side)"
There is only 1 sensor per bank. Unless you meant the other side. http://realoem.com/bmw/diagrams/f/d/22.png Part 12 on the diagram is the part I am referring to. They are both very easy to get to. I am not sure if there is a write up on it. But you don't need one. It is one 6mm(Or something like that) bolt that secures the sensor. Remove it and remove from the block. Trace the wire to the electrical box and pull the clip and pull it out. Insert new sensor, clip wire to electrical box, tighten bolt and done. Less than 5 minutes per side. |
i bet I read a couple threads for the o2 sensors..which do have 2 per side, correct?
Thanks for the diagram GTR, and now that I see where they are you are correct, no write up required at all. Smart to replace both or just as required? |
quick question, is a BMW FEBI part OEM or replacement? I see some on ebay but not sure if its the oem one I want.
|
ok, did more research, obviously not. Ordered 2 oem sensors plus the o-rings from bmwpartssource.com for $200 shipped to my location...not bad price at all.
|
Sorry for the delay. Yeah Febi is a good part, but a lot have complained the Aftermarket just doesnt work out. You did good!
