intake boot replacement help
i have a low rpm whistling notice, i traced it down to a crack in my vac line of The intake boot. so i ordered one, BMW AIR INTAKE BOOT E53 X5 3.0L 1999 2005 FREE SHIPPING | eBay
now i watched a video of the replacement done a m54 3 series e46. so im thinking its going to be similar. are there any tips on how to proceed with this, or DIY for 3.0? if not than ill try making one... also would i need to buy any new hose clamps? thanks |

hello everyone, I have successfully replaced the intake boot and cleaned the throttle body & idle control valve. This is a very common problem with E53's particularly 3.0i motors. The M54 motor.
i followed this nice video.... E46 DIY #4 Replacing Intake Boots, Cleaning Throttle Body, ICV & P1189/88 Attempt #4 - YouTube here's a few pictures I took while working on it... This could possibly resolve my constant Reverse Gear Idle stalling problem... I checked the disa and it seems to work fine... inside i noticed a lot of carbon deposits build up from the disa section. I'm thinking of seafoaming it out... http://i1229.photobucket.com/albums/...ps5a91cf05.jpg the new part.. http://i1229.photobucket.com/albums/...ps5a0b0f51.jpg idle control valve http://i1229.photobucket.com/albums/...ps40a8f269.jpg http://i1229.photobucket.com/albums/...ps393baa27.jpg my very convenient setup http://i1229.photobucket.com/albums/...psb1d6d40e.jpg http://i1229.photobucket.com/albums/...ps230bbb1b.jpg |
how much fun was that boot to get out and replace? and what did you clean the ICV with? i heard getting to those clamps is a bitch on that boot!

it wasnt to bad when you have patience. Im only 18, comes Saturday i have weekends off. did some errands in the morning.
A nissan maxima v6 tried to race me... hard to keep up with. so at that point i had enough and started working on performance. really it wasnt so hard to work on...clamps? there not to bad.... or not as bad as my volvo when i was replacing cv boots and such. I cleaned the ICV with CRC throttle body cleaner.... just like in the video. autozone carrys it. the job tooks me 1 to 1 1\2 hours as i was also learning new things first time and didnt want to screw anything up.... only thing i never found the throttle body cable....so i had to manually push it wit my finger to open it...i guess its the cable of the pedal to a computer to a wire on throttle body... |
