Front of Engine Maintenance
Had my '05 X5 with 3.0 into BMW for what turned out to be fuel injector replacement. Got the long list of things to do (and with thousands of dollars in the estimate) and one of the items was the idler pulley. Going to replace but what else up front should I change out at the same time? Fan clutch is seeping a little fluid so that will go. Have a slight leak in oil filter housing so I'll fix that too. Was thinking two belt tensioners too along with belts. What about adjustment pulley and hydraulic unit; do I have these and should I change them out? Car is well maintained and has 130k miles on it. It's a manual but I don't imagine that makes a difference up front.

Ok, you say fan clutch, so I am assuming you have a 3.0. All those things you mentioned are a good place to start. Since the top end is coming out, you should also do the CCV, DISA, VCG, and plugs. I didn't see belts in there, so do that too.
Please place your info in your sig such as I have done. Thanks. |
