Personally, I'm not a fan of cars that are completely one color.. I think the black trim helps to kind of break it up and makes it look better. And NO M BADGE! Re-badging annoys me... I saw an X5 with 3.0i exhaust and a 4.4i badge once....
In Boston a few weeks ago I saw a neon, yes neon yellow Toyota Tercel with a huge wing, 3-inch exhaust, etc, and it had a BMW roundel on the back... I felt like walking over there and smacking the owner upside the head!
Anyone remember that picture of the Ford Escape with a BMW emblem and X5 badges that was posted a while back?

[QUOTE=2001BMW330xi]my personal belief has always been that the "M" stands for motorsport, and if you've got BMW Motorsport parts....sure, why not. As long as you don't claim it to be something it's not, such as a 330ci saying "M" versus it saying "M3". HUGEE DIFFERENCE.QUOTE]

As a matter of fact, in Canada we have 3-series cars with "M" on them. We have the 330i M and the 330Ci M. They have the M Sport Package, which is the exact same as your ZHP in the USA.

Having that M badge on there is what I think is wrong with it too. Reminds me of the countless times I've seen a 5.0 badge on an obviously 4 or 6 cylinder Mustang, it just doesn't seem right.

BTW...this MX5 is listed for sale on Auto Trader in Utah.

Almost every week I see a 3 series with a M badge put by the owner. You can easily tell that its not a ///M :dunno: what they are trying...

As I said before, the ///M stands for Motorsport, and they may have BMW ///M parts on their car. IMO as long as it doesn't say "///M3", it's exceptable to a certain degree. It's just representation of your company. It's the same with Mercedes vehicles: you can order the AMG sport package for just about any of their models, and a lot of times people will add-on the //AMG label to represent that they in fact have official Mercedes and AMG parts on their cars. I think this is okay.

Of course, it's not okay to try and say you have a S55 AMG when it's a S430 and you've added on chrome tips or say you're an M3 when clearly your mirrors are stock coupe mirrors, etc.

I can see your point there, and after all, if you have the $ to buy the badge, you can put it any where you like.

Motorsport- meaning that your car is equipped with the suspension and engine components of a sports car, be it a coupe or sedan or maybe even an SAV. Seeing that M on a BMW or the AMG on a Benz or even the R/T on a Dodge is subtly saying "I might not have flame graphics on my door panels or side port exhausts, but I haul ass". When the underpinnings don't live up to the badge, you're fakin the funk, IMHO.

I understand what people are saying about the M badges. But I dunno...for some reason it still seems kind of wrong to put an M badge on when it's not a M car. I guess maybe the M badge just seems too closely linked to all the real M cars that to put the badge on anything else just seems wrong. Mostly because BMWs are already driver's cars. So to put the additional badges seem to be an over-kill...but I do have to admit that it seems more normal to have an AMG badge on a Benz...

It's lame when someone puts ///M3 or ///M5 on their cars... But if somoene sticks an M badge on their ride I don't seen much wrong with it. It just kind of tells me they are an enthusiast... I saw a 4.8is X5 with M badges on it the other day... Seemed appropriate to me.
