Center shift, boot, pops out very easy
 

Yes it comes apart as tho a 2nd grader had known that this switch was going to have issues, believe me it came apart so easy and the fix to the switch can be as easy as holding pressure on the part that splits very easy and fixed with super glue, clamp it with rubber bands to keep it tightly held till the glue sets,,,, then for added support use electrical tape to be sure that it will not come apart or break again, I did this over 3 years ago, still is in a1 condition, I do not have 50-60 dollars to spend on a switch, so when your not loaded like a mitwit you find other solutions!

YOU GUYS are the BEST, I "popped out the shifter boot, reached under and the hazard/Locking button popped right out, sure enough the bottom has broken loose, I epoxied it and am letting it set, worst case a new switch is available on *bay for about $20

I could not figure out why it would ever break as it did, there is never any pressure on the switch is that hard to even make it break, its so easy to fix, and its a 46 dlooar if you go get a new one, and less that 20 mins to fix it and either epoxy it glue it and just let it set well, as i also said to wrap it with some electrical tape to help it stay together even better, its just a cheap insurance to help, glad I could help you!!

OK, epoxy works like a charm, back in and now FIXED at the cost of about 10 cents worth of quick set epoxy.....thing is why did it break? well if it lasts another 6 years I'll be happy.
And popping it out from under the shifter boot was simple.

Quick fix, and the best thing it dam near free and simple to do !!

Mine also failed recently. It's a gradual process because when I push up the switch, I saw that 3 of the tabs have been broken, last one was on its way out.

The plastic opening is so thin the edges just break off as the buttons continues to get pushed year after year (be gentle with the pushing of the button people!)

When I opened the boot cover and the lock switch, I saw so much gunk and dried up stain, I'm sure both place has been visited by multiple coffee / and soft drink splashes. It took a while and some elbow grease to clean up all those gunk.

I used a boot-fix glue instead of super glue. Applied on all 4 sides and pressed the cover flush with the bottom of the switch. It's now good and tight. Hope to get a few more years of use on this button.
