Bye Bye 2003 E53...

I'll miss you! :(
It was a great car but at 160,000 the time finally came. Between gas prices (it was my DD) and maintenance repairs, I had to start thinking long and hard about getting another car...so today I picked up another BMW.

Although with the price increase of even entry level models I'm not sure I can even afford BMW's anymore. This may be my last one. Not good.

Anyway, I owned my X5 the longest out of all my cars and I already miss that fickle car!

I don't know many of the "newer" members here but enjoy your X while you still have it. It was a fun car for me to have and drive.

out of curiosity, what does is cost monthly to drive an X5 in the USA?

In the netherlands you pay for a diesel car, 100 euro insurance & 200 euro taxes each month (total of 390 dollar). diesel price is 1,50 euro per liter (about 4 liter is 1 gallon?) 6 euro per gallon = 7,8 dollar per gallon...

NOT as much as the Netherlands that's for sure!

Sorry I couldn't contribute more to your question.

Still miss my X! it was paid for but I like the new car a lot. It's a 2013 328ix. It's beautiful and gets a lot of attention! It's plenty fast enough for me and fun to drive. I have to get used to sitting so low again, especially after owning my X for so many years.

I traded the X and I shouldn't have done that. Live and learn I guess.

I'm feeling ya.

I've got a little over 90K on the 2005 X and will be getting a daily driver for the express purpose of keeping the X. Like you I cannot afford a new one at current
prices so i struggled with deciding weather I should sell or not. But I believe i'm leaning heavily towards keep it because I know if I get rid of it i'll be sorry.
In the meantime I hope you will find some Joy with your new ride.

I think black was hands down the nicest colour on the E53

I was going through the same thing between gas prices and repairs
these X are expensive to maintain.
This was my 10th BMW and will be my last. I ended up getting a 96
integra as my DD. The X only comes out on Sundays now.
Hey those 2013 328 are great in gas mileage and look good nice replacement.
Trade in def a bad idea... I work in a dealership we tell you 13k for trade in
and in reality you're only getting 7k.

Thank you! I'm nervous with the so called bad winter people are already predicting. The sad thing is, no matter what the weather conditions were, I always felt safe in my X. Always. I'm not sure I'll have the same feeling in this car but I did want something totally different from what I had. So I definitely got that.

Honestly, if the X was not my DD I would have kept the car longer, no doubt about that. Gas and maintenance fees were rising rapidly at 160,000.

A friend of mine wanted to buy my X but he wasn't giving me a good deal either, and trust me, I was being fair. He was also lowballing me. And I can't stand the idea of strangers having my number and calling me about my car and wasting my time. So I took the easy way out. It was too easy tho. A part of me wishes I had sold it to him because I'm curious of the mileage he would've reached before anything major happened...I wanted to get it up to 200,000. Plus he owns several cars and enjoys working on all his cars so he would have saved himself a lot of money on labor, unlike myself.

now you tell me! i knew in trading in my vehicle i wasn't going to get the kind of deal i would get if i sold privately and felt the deal wasn't too bad considering the mileage and it needed tires. it wasn't great but not terrible, if that makes sense.

getting a car is overwhelming and i don't find enjoyment in it at all. it's a numbers game and even when i think, ok, this is doable, once everything is signed and done i feel like i got screwed royally. not fun.

since you work at a dealership, how do they work in the trade, exactly? just curious.

Sad to have the X gone, but nice replacement. Any more picture of your "eBay" side steps on the X?
