Does anyone in Jersey do the Cluster pixel repair?
I've been getting annoyed by my dead pixels in the cluster for some time now (the message center has a lot out, and on my overall mileage, for some reason the temperature and the trip miles are pretty much all there) and I think to pay someone 150 or so for the delicate work is worth it, it's a job I don't believe I have steady enough hands to do.
German Audio Repair, Bimmeronly, and German Auto Recycling are all sellers on ebay who do this service and promise quick turnaround, the problem is, most of them are in California. I'm wondering if anyone has had their pixels repaired in the TriState and could save me the hassle of taking out my cluster and sending it out, and waiting 1-2 weeks before it's back in my car again, and thus leaving the X out of service. Maybe there's an indy who does this job on the side, or similar, I'd much rather drive over and drop the X for the day, and be able to pick it back up. Any input is appreciated here guys, worst comes to worst I'll probably go on Ebay to that seller who is in Tennessee, at least it's closer than Florida. -Jay |
I recently used the guy in Tennessee to have mine redone and am very pleased with the results. Plus, there is a lifetime warranty on their work. Well worth it, in my opinion.

Def keeping it in mind Jeff and glad to hear you are pleased! I can always ride the Triumph or have the wife drive for a few days in waiting, just before I sent it I figured I'd see if theres anyone local for me :)

I did mine through German Audio (MID). Sent it out on a Monday to Cali from Michigan. I sent it USPS Express. they probably got it Wednesday. It was back to me by Friday, however, between the weekend and then the holiday, I didnt physically get it back in hand till Yesterday (tuesday). Otherwise, It would have been a week. Shipping for me was about 15 bucks at USPS, but I could have stepped up with better shipping.

I have done the MID myself. Takes about 2 hours. Just tedious, not overly difficult. Instrument cluster is another story however.

Talking about the speedo here guys, sorry I didn't clarify.

I did try to repair myself a few months ago without success. I bought the ribbin $20 form ebay in California. Took the whole cluster aparted, drilled the holes to get access to the trox screws(scarry)....put everything back as instructed on internet, but the end result still not work. So I call the guy and send him the cluster. He even give me $20 cerdit for the ribbin. The whole thing with the repair and shipping took about a week.

FYI for all:
Ebay member "bavarianaudio" who has been repairing MID clusters for a while now has recently in the last few months offered the cluster repair service. He is located in Rahway/Linden, NJ so very local to NYC/NJ people, and his prices are very fair at 150 for the repair service with lifetime warranty. I will be taking my cluster personally to him in the next few weeks and will update my impressions, I just thought I'd give him a shout out on the forums since I neglected to fix my cluster on the notion that I didnt want to ship to CA or someplace i'd have to wait on the turnaround, local was a better option for me. |
How did the repair service turn out ? I need to send my cluster out for repairs. I read your post and you mentioned you found someone in Florida that does the repair ? Would you mind telling me who and where ?
Thanks, Ed |
I used Bimmeronly in Ca.
BMW E38 E39 M5 x5 Cluster Mid Radio Display Pixel Package Repair | eBay They accepted my offer (don't remember exactly what it was) fixed it the day they got it & had it back to me within 3 days total. Both the cluster & MID are like new. I highly recommend them. |
