Heat Exchanger
 

Hello everyone,

Been browsing around here the past month since I picked up a 2003 X5 3.0 Sienna Red.

I replace the thermostat and after the first drive, my heat exchanger pops out and starts leaking coolant everywhere. Puddles at a time.

Has anyone experienced the heat exchanger popping out on its own?

Sounds like your missing the retaining clips that hold it to the radiator

Happened to me (my wife to be exact) once. The temp needle was creeping up to red. Good thing she remember what I told her "Pull over immediately when the temp needle raising near the red zone"

I tried installing it a different way. I put the retainer clip in all the way before the heat exchanger. Pushed in the heat exchanger until I hear a click. The retainer clip must of only been holding it on one and side not the other.

So far so good. I also replace the auto transmission thermostat (broken in pieces) in the expansion tank. Not sure if that would of made any difference.
