Tire Recommendation
I have a 2004 3.0 with the sport suspension, so tires are 255 50 18's. I've been running with the original model tires Michelin Energy MXV4 tires, which have been great. I'm due for another 4 tires and need some recommendations other then Michelins. Really cant afford another set of $274/ea tires
I live in Southern Ca, so I'm not really concerned about snow, etc. A little rain now and then. Recommendations? |
def never take the atturos. ever.

I get my Bridgestones from Costco. Seems like they are the most reasonable priced. Plus you have lifetime tire repair.
They got a special going on $100 off total price. I have a 4.4 with sports package and total out the door for my 19 inch staggered tires are $1005.00. Not bad . . . . |
Pirelli Pzero Rosso's? I ran them (albeit it was the 17" version) after the Michelin mxv's and never had a problem with them. They did have a bit of a tendency to flat spot if I didnt move the X for a couple days, but that was really they only drawback.
EDIT: So nevermind, I Just looked up the price after posting this for the heck of it and in the size you need and there a whopping $467 a tire:wow:........ |
I believe the correct size is 255/55/18? I replaced my MXV's with Nitto 420S in this size and have about 7500 miles on them. I was not a fan of the Michelin's and have been happy with these. They have an aggresive looking tread pattern and cost about 1/2 of what the MXV's. I have read reviews that say they get louder with age... but so did my MXV's. They have also had some not great snow reviews, I had no problem in the mountains during a Tahoe ski trip.

As X-Pilot noted, the correct size is 255/55/R18...
A quick glance at TR shows 80 tire models in that size, with several in the well under a $ Grand for a set of four. And, if not a TR fan, try Discount Tire, OnLine tires, Sears, Costco, et al... Not pitching any, but some sets that pop up include: B stone Duellers Yoko Avid Gen Grabber F Stone Desitnation Kuhmo Ecsta et al Tire Search Results GL, mD |
Thanks for correcting me on the tire size.... A typo on my part. Appreciate the feedback on tire model

I have the same sport package on a 2005 X5 3.0i with the same size tires, and after my MXV4's I purchased the Toyo Proxy ST II, which were quite reasonably priced. I'm not sure if these tires have fallen out of favor, but they have served me well; I have about 30,000 miles on them at this point, and they are going strong. I'm curious to see what other recommendations come in!

I had the Nitto 420S as well in that configuration. 255 55 18. Loved them. Would do great in SoCal. They were fine in the wet, but be cautious in the snow. Those tires looked amazing and gripped quite well in the twisties. You should be able to pick up a set for under $600. I will probably buy another set this spring and run them as my summer set.

I dont get why everyone slates Atturo's. I got them on my 3.0, granted they were on when I purchased them but if your not driving in snow then they perform reasonably well.
