Rear Shock Mounts DIY ??

Is there a DIY for rear shock mounts for E53 anywhere. I did a search and couldn't find one (unless its there and i'm brain farting today). Got a thump while going over bumps (aka every NYC road), so I sat in the trunk as my wife drove and heard it in the position of the rear shock mount area.

Pics?

Honestly I don't know, but you could probably investigate by first checking out the rear wheel wells then tearing into the interior some.

Rear shock mounts are pretty easy. Should be pretty similar to the E36/E46:

I bet it's your rear subframe mounts and not the shock mounts. It would make sense if you hear it in that area. I wouldn't think the shock mounts would be able to make much noise when failing because they'd still be connected unless they fully broke off which is almost never going to happen. I pulled one of my out to take a look at them and with 175k and the original struts/mounts there were fine, but my subframe mounts were FINISHED. see my thread for more.

also check rear sway bar end links, those are super cheap and easy to replace.

Take a look at your spring pads (what the lower side of the spring sits on) located at the lower control arm. These have a tendency to move as they age and cause your spring to be slightly mis-align enough to hit parts nearby.

I actually got new spring pads when I lowered it using B&G springs, so that's not a possible culprit.

This could be another possibility. I will have to wait till the spring/summer time to replace the subframe bushings since I'm @ 122k
