Bad Pixel at dash miles and gps!
i got my 2003 bmw x5 few weeks ago,and i got some dead pixels at the dash where miles are and also the gps has some lines in it also,
can this be fix? is it any connection between the 2? from the dash pixel to the gps? http://i1309.photobucket.com/albums/...psa733ed98.jpg http://i1309.photobucket.com/albums/...psc1b0b0ee.jpg http://i1309.photobucket.com/albums/...psb3244238.jpg http://i1309.photobucket.com/albums/...pse3296d49.jpg thanks regards. |
the pixels in the cluster - probably due to corroded connectors... BMW used to do a free goodwill replacement - you pay for labor, they pay for part...if they don't do it anymore, there are some companies that will fix it for you. if you decide to replace it yourself with a used one, you have to take it to the dealer for coding, otherwise the mileage tamper dot will be on...
the screen needs to be replaced - there are several threads about Sharp replacement screen and the part number... |
wow, sounds like a lot of money at play...
so the 2 don't have nothing incoming? i mean for the gps? and if purchased a used cluster one,the only thing will be the miles, will be different, and probably need purchase proof ? i think they may require to see..at the dealer. thanks |
they would not care about the proof of the mileage on the used part, they will program the mileage from your car into the used cluster, as well as some other pieces of info... that is if the dealer will use the used part to do the installation in the first place... you might be better off sending your own cluster for repairs - will be cheaper... if you do send it out, you must make sure that you are not driving more than 200 miles (or is it kms?), without cluster, otherwise, even your own cluster will throw a tamper dot that will be hard to cancel (hard - legally, not technically).. do a google search - bmw pixel repair

okay,thanks for that info!,
now remains to find someone to do it,and to see how much will cost me for all this...(cluster side) thanks |
I did the NAV screen replacement recently, and I got the screen from eBay seller eurotech.lcd . Cost was $168.00 and I used a tutorial I found here. Here's a link to send you in the right direction:
http://www.xoutpost.com/electronics/...ent-guide.html In terms of difficulty, this is similar to changing a laptop screen, but with less complicated disassembly. |
FYI, the $tealers will NOT code used cluster to your bimmer period. You would have to find a competent BMW Indy to have that done.
