you may want to get a video. that side of the engine could also be an intake type whine....

BC - I thought all belt dressing did was cause the rubber to swell slightly which can prolong a belt on its way out. Sort of like moisturizing skin. I think it also adds a bit of tackiness, but a slipping belt is due to bad tension or a worn surface and I dont think lubing it up will make a difference long term.

Yes, if belt dressing is good for anything it is normally something used on an old belt. However, I have used it very sparingly on belts, a little goes a long way, when they got coolant or oil on them which may have happened in this case.

Kinghrh, as mentioned, more often than not the squeaking is caused by something driven by the belts. Was the squeaking there before the belts were changed?

Funny, I hear a whine that seems to come from the intake once in a while that could be mistaken initially as coming from the belts. J, since you mentioned that intake whine, is that normal? What causes it? I think I read somewhere it could be CCV related?

I never got to update this thread but the squeaking from the belts I resolved already, and it was a combination of a few parts of the belt drive system. My main belt tensioner was hydraulic, and though the shock was fine, it's bushings had play. Had a few pulleys that had rough bearings as well. Replaced everything and that fixed it.

Hey Steve, sorry, just saw this now.

While waiting for the whistling to get worse so I could pinpoint it, my alternator died.

So when I replaced the alternator with a new Valeo, I also replaced the alternator belt tensioner assy with pulley (LUK), A/C belt tensioner assy w/ pulley (LUK), and the idler pulley (LUK), along with the main belt and ac belts (Continental).

This particular gaggle of parts I bought in Hong Kong, of all places...they were cheaper than what I could find on-line.

FCPEuro has good prices too, Pelican, Turner and ECS are all reasonably priced too.

To add to this, sometime after I overhauled the accessory drive, I started hearing some whistling again. Then i started noticing a very very slight miss on idle.

I decided to check the intake system. Intake elbow was cracked badly at the creases and had small tears. Disa valve flap was also broken but thankfully had not come apart yet.

Changed both out and all quiet again.
