Service Records for used BMW X5 from Dealership?
If you ask a BMW dealership for the service records of a vehicle that you buy used (not from the dealership), will they provide them?
How detailed are the service records? For example, if a repair is on the front of the vehicle vs the back, does the service record specify? Thank you for your help. |
They will not provide you any records unless you owned the car at the time of the service was performed or you know somebody at BMW dealership

This is a touchy subject. A dealer is not required to furnish this info. Most of the time they do not like doing it. I have heard of plenty of people who "know a guy" who can pull the records, I have yet to try it myself.

The issue is the privacy of the previous owner(s).
Most dealers will tell you about the services performed, but not give you a printout that gives away information about the previous owners. It all depends on your relationship with the service advisor. The service records are specific down to part numbers and labour hours involved in each service action. |
Thanks for the responses guys. I don't know anyone at the dealership, but maybe a friend of a friend kind of thing will work.
Before I purchase the X5, I would like to know it's history. |
The only record will be of service work performed at a BMW dealership...as you indicated it is an E53, it may have had other work done at Indies, in the drive way, etc.
