X5 saved my Xmas

Hey guys! Been a while since I've been on the forum...it's been crazy busy with ex-wife drama... got custody of my 16 yr old daughter...no more child support! Woohoo!

Anyway, my new wife (married last Feb, I think? :p:) and I, bought a house east of Dallas. Over the weekend Sunday & Monday we couldn't wait until after Xmas to start moving in, so we rented a 5' x 9' open top trailer for my 4.8 to pull.
Monday evening, last load of the day and it was heavy with a huge treadmill, solid wood rolltop desk, loaded steamer trunk and other items. It was one of the heavier loads I had pulled.

My daughter driving her 2003 X5 3.0 loaded with stuff running point, I'm in the middle and my wife bringing up the tail in her 2006 X3. Just a caravan of BMW's with hazards on so people know we need a little more clearance, etc... just being safe.

Crusing on hwy 80 east towards Forney and this Nissan Altima (girl driver) enters the on ramp and she had zero room to speed up and merge...hit the ramp and you're on. She didn't even look to see who was coming up to merge with and just merged into the right lane without a care in the world cutting me off.
My right front bumper and her left rear panel missed by millimeters.... Natural reaction by me was to hit the brakes and I prayed the trailer wouldn't cause me to jack knife. My wife's heart stopped when she saw the whole thing happen. I think the fact that the X5 weighs just over 5k, those big brakes and holding the wheel somewhat straight made my and that girls Xmas.

I laid on the horn and flashed my beams at her and she just raised her hand, I assume acknowledging the near miss and kept going. Really?

Here's the funny part.... I'm checking to make sure I didn't shit myself, I then see my wife roar by in her X3 going after the girl. She was so pissed, she down shifted (6 spd man-M pkg) and was instantly up that girls butt...almost road raging her! She said.."Oh hell no...you didn't!" and took off after her.

We exited and my wife calls my daughter and tells her, "Don't ever do what I just did. I was just as stupid as the girl that almost ran your father off the road".

I love that woman and my BMW X5 4.8is!!!!

glad to hear all are okay!

that's a good story for all of our feelings ( don't mind me speaking for everyone) on the X's safety. without going in to much detail my wife had a near miss at a much lower speed ( 30 - 40's ) and I was glad to know that the X held up in safety reaction much as you describe.

cheers

I hate to say this, but over 90% of dangerous situations I encountered so far are caused by female drivers. It seems driving is just not a gal thing. They simple forget to observe, yield or signal before merging or changing lanes.

I am sure that girl had a chance to update her facebook in realtime : "just almost got run off the road by some crazy chick. some people should not have licenses"

I'm glad to see I'm not the only girl that feels the need to chase down these non-driving, cell phone using, non-blinking, burger eating, cut-off-ing, unlicensed drivers.
Sorry had to vent a little, memories.
Loving my 4.4i daily.

I love a good burger, but don't run me off the road while enjoying it...:eeps:

Glad you all good. I hate ignorant drivers on the roads. Getting a drivers licence in our country is too damn easy. We need tougher requirements and testing.

Driving in America is not seen as a potentially hazardous form of transportation that requires constant care and attention, and skill. Most people see their car as an extension of their living room that happens to get them places.

Glad you are safe and congrats on the child support. How about she pays you now? :D
